   We came for my boyfriend’s birthday and the staff made it very special with a bottle of free bottle Prosecco.. the service was fabulous as was the food, which was presented beautifully.

   The website seems to be out of date, it suggests fine dining with seasonal produce but upon arrival we were met with the ‘all day’ menu which, whilst very nice, wasn’t the reason we booked this hotel. The food was very nice but ‘pub grub’ with one or two exceptions. Two choices of dessert, crumble or sticky toffee pudding. Expected a dining experience as the website mentions duck, blue cheese soufflé etc but sadly it didn’t deliver what we thought we had booked.

   Very welcoming. Staff knew it was a special occasion and kindly gave us a complimentary glass of fizz. Duck and venison were amazing.

   The food itself was very nice. For such an expensive restaurant, the ambience is lacking. It's the same room where the hotel serves breakfast and that's exactly what it feels like; would be nicer with dimmer lighting and maybe a candle on the table. The cutlery is cheap and not in great condition. Service was average, the bread rolls arrived after our starters, and I was not provided with a steak knife for my venison. If all you care about is good food then come here, but if you're after an "experience" or something romantic, I would look elsewhere.

    We were a party of two adults and a teenager, celebrating a birthday. We live locally and hadn't ever tried this restaurant for as long as we had lived in the area. The booking process was smooth and painless. When we arrived, we were shown to our table and sort of left to it for a little while (albeit by a very kind and friendly waitress). There was three main menus on the table (one for each place setting) and one wine list/drinks menu. The menus looked a little bit crumpled and slightly worse for wear. We had to keep passing the drinks menu between us to work out what we wanted to drink. After quite a while, the waitress asked us if we were ready to order. We had to ask if it was okay to first take our drinks order while we decided on food. We had only manged to choose our drinks and select some starters so proceeded to place that order. We then saw food coming to other tables that wasn't on the menus we had. When we asked the waitress about it, she said it was a set menu. We asked if we could take a look at the set menus. They then proceeded to go find us some - cue another 10 minute wait. We thought we might want to order some items from the set menu but then were told we had already ordered starters from the main menu but they would ask if it was possible (!). We stuck with our order to save complicating things too much. Soon, our starters arrived with a flourish, but still no drinks. We had to remind a waitress passing by about our drinks. Then two drinks arrived, and the third we were told there was no draft IPA as ordered but we could have a can. Long story short, we were halfway through our starter when the drinks arrived. The theme continued throughout the meal - our second order of drinks arrived when we had nearly finished our mains. So, in summary, very good food but not incredible, friendly service but not attentive, very business-hotel ambience, and quite high prices with a 13% service charge. All in all, it'll be a while before we go back.
