   I’d say that O-ku does live up to its reputation as being the top sushi in Charlotte largely due to freshness of food, outstanding ambiance and quality service. 2 caveats though, a few in our party were drinking and said the margaritas were super weak (while still being $15/each) and take note there isn’t much on the menu if you need a substantial dish to fill you up. Closest thing we found was chicken teriyaki with rice. It truly is a sushi restaurant NOT trying to be an all in one Asian restaurant with things like dumplings, Thai dishes, etc…

   It was my friends birthday and the entire team at O-Ku made her feel extra special. The host, the busers, wait staff, etc everyone said happy birthday…it was even on the menu. And they brought a birthday dish that was delicious, South End Shrimp, order it!!! Also they were out of her favorite roll (potato roll) bc they have to roll it before shift it is so intricate, we were bummed but moved on everything was so good. Towards the end of the meal they brought out a potato roll they rolled especially for us! Amazing! I rarely give words reviews but Mayling and team were awesome. Thank you!!

   I’ve always enjoyed dining at O’Ku, but my recent visit left me a little disappointed. Everything about the experience was great overall—lovely atmosphere, attentive service, and quality food—but I was disheartened to discover that the best sushi roll, the Hot and Heavy, is no longer on the menu. I decided to try the Truffle Toro roll, and my date opted for the Mermaid Roll. While both were decent, they didn’t quite measure up to the bold flavors and balance of the Hot and Heavy. I really hope O’Ku considers bringing it back—it was truly a standout dish. We also shared the Southend Shrimp and a salad, which were both delicious. My date enjoyed a cocktail, and I had a refreshing ginger beer to round out the meal. O’Ku remains a solid choice for sushi in Charlotte, but the absence of the Hot and Heavy roll was definitely felt. Here’s hoping it makes a comeback!

   Once again had the most fabulous experience at Oku. We have celebrated all our big events here, engagement, anniversaries and now my husbands 30th birthday where they went above and beyond making our experience out of this world. I’m so thankful for all the memories we’ve shared here, which is why we come back from Ohio every single year to enjoy their amazing hospitality and food.    We asked for 2 seats at the sushi bar; I said in the notes on Open Table and called at 4:30 to confirm and was told that they make every attempt to honor requests. When we got there they tried to seat us at a table near the door. I again asked for the sushi bar and we waited another 30 minutes while only 3 people were seated there! Drink orders took forever and the food was disappointing.

    From the time we walked in to the time we left everything was a 20-30 minute wait. Arrived on time for our reservation at 9:15 wasn’t sat until 9:35 manager stopped at our table once to apologize and assure we’d be taken care of (never seen him again after that). Got to our table was gifted two pieces of sashimi for waiting. Ordered two appetizers with server (who was nice but clearly too busy) those took about 20 min to come out after finishing those we ordered drinks those took 30/35 min to come out. We completely finished our cocktails before the two rolls we ordered 30 minutes ago came out. After our rolls I asked for the check and a special request (slice of cake with a candle for my best friend’s birthday) that unfortunately was another 20 minute wait. Wouldn’t come here for special occasions just quick dinning. Also understand that just because you make a reservation doesn’t mean you’ll be sat at the time of your reservation or even have a private table.
