Park Tavern on Washington Square has long been a vibrant staple and foundation of the North Beach community. Now, under the helm of renowned American chef-partner Jonathan Waxman and fifth-generation San Franciscan James Nicholas, Park Tavern on Washington Square celebrates San Francisco’s vibrant dining scene with a fresh new era. The restaurant has several private dining options available for groups and parties.

As a Bay Area native and one of the pioneers of “California cuisine” Chef Waxman leans into his roots, celebrating the region’s local ingredients showcased in simple, seasonal dishes. Guests can enjoy a menu including Yellowfin Tuna Crudo with avocado, blood oranges, and fresno chili salsa, Cavatelli with dungeness crab, lemon, and parmesan, and Kurobuta Pork Chop Milanese with new potatoes and pepperonata. A few of Waxman’s trademark dishes make an appearance including the JW Kale Salad with anchovy dressing and breadcrumbs, and the famed JW Chicken with salsa verde.

The Hostess Team did an outstanding job of seating our group of 5 and a 1 and a half year old baby at a great table. Thank you so much. The salads were both excellent and a different tasting experience . The bread sticks or crackers are a joke and should be complimentary. If you are going to charge for warm bread, then please provide ample butter and oil for a table of 5. The only real detriment to our experience was while our attentive server was passing out appetizer plates, one plate had a little residue of what seemed to be chocolate cake and the next plate had a half of a chocolate cake smushed onto the bottom of the plate. Our server acted immediately and accordingly, but my wife has forever correlated that with her impression of the restaurant. The food was tasty, but nothing exceeding a quality restaurant’s expectations.

We went two weeks ago it was amazing, our server was incredible! (James) However not tonight. Food was a giant let down, server was so sad, and goodness we were embarrassed to take our friends from the neighborhood, who we raved about its comeback too….What a bummer.

Nice place, good service. We had been going to the original PT for years. The food and drinks were great, the ambience was, uh, glamorous. Now, the drinks were pedestrian, a lot of them using house booze. Ingredients were not included on the menu. Maybe because they were uninspiring. The food was OK. The restaurant had a faint fishy smell. Some bites of my tuna crudo were fishy. The charrerd salad was decent, my steak was overdone(they did replace it). For a $190 tab, incl. tip, not good. And, I know the restaurant has no control over this, but in the old PT people used to dress up. It was fun. Now it's puffer jackets with baseball caps and wool hats. Yeah, I know those Patagonia puffer jackets and North Face beanies cost $$$$, but, geez, you look like you just came in from a backpack trip.

The service was exceptional. All the food was delicious. Swiss chard was my favorite.

Everything was great, the food was amazing. The restaurant was a bit loud, but that was ok due to the the quality of the food. My only issue and maybe I am being cheap or just used to a second cup of coffee complimentary but they changed everyone at the table for a second cup of coffee. But nothing was said, it was just assumed that we should know that. Again maybe just used to it, the wait staff should alert the customer if that is the case. Other than that it was a wonderful meal for my birthday.

Fantastic food coupled with great service. The halibut was cooked perfectly and the sauce it was served with was delish. Great spot to go for a date night.

Went for a birthday dinner with a party of 5 and unfortunately had a really poor food and service experience. There was a 45min wait in between our apps and dinner entrees. Our fifth entree came out 15min after everyone else which is just an awkward and unpleasant experience for the person who has to wait for their food. The truffle spaghetti was flavorless and the menu said it was bucatini noodles (manager said they misprinted the menu, but that doesn't make sense as our waiter would have noted that), the NY steak was over cooked and poor quality, didnt have great flavor, duck was subpar and the vegetables were hard to cut. I fear this is another north beach tourist trap. They have a great wine list, burrata and prosciutto appetizer was good but small burrata portion.

The food is rather generic. The wine list is choppy with some good wine values but more not so good values. The noise level was a total bust. If you are 20-something you'll likely enjoy noise masquerading as excitement. Otherwise, you'll likely wonder why you came here. It wasn't as loud before the renovation, so go figure. The likely best seats now are outside so you'll have to wait for better weather. So, depending on age you'll love it or hate it. I'd say wait for warm weather.
