Founded in 1989 by Jeremy Mogford, Parsonage Grill is a Cotswold-esque bolthole located within the 5 star 17th century Old Parsonage Hotel in central Oxford on Banbury Road.
Famous for its intimate, bohemian, clubby atmosphere, the Parsonage Grill and its private dining space, the ‘Pike Room’, displays a carefully curated collection of eclectic oil paintings, original stone fireplaces, leaded light windows and a Bloomsbury club ambience throughout. Outside, inspired by the legendary Jardin Majorelle, created by Yves Saint Laurent in Marrakech, a beautiful walled terrace sits dappled in the sun. This newly revitalised space seamlessly blends traditional British elegance with the vibrant energy of North Africa.
The Parsonage Grill team take pride in creating classic British dishes with a modern, light touch, and are open every day of the year to enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and our famous afternoon teas, in the company of Oxford’s academic and literary luminaries...

Our meals were delicious. The menu was quite small which in my view is a good thing. It means the ingredients are fresh. Good value and a very pleasant dining room.

Our food was very good indeed and the service was also good, but the noise level was way beyond energetic unless that is a euphemism for the rowdiness of the table next to us. Eventually we had to ask them to be quieter and they soon left and the noise level became perfect for the last 30 minutes of your otherwise excellent meal.
Parsonage GrillResponded on 27 March 2025
Thank you for your kind words about our food and service—we’re so glad you enjoyed your meal! We sincerely apologize for the noise level during part of your visit. While we strive to create a lively and welcoming atmosphere, we understand that excessive noise can impact the dining experience. We appreciate your patience and are glad you were able to enjoy a more comfortable setting for the latter part of your meal. We hope to welcome you back soon for another excellent experience!

This was a great place in the past. Unfortunately this time, and having not been for a while, a friend and I felt let down, especially since shortly after leaving the restaurant we both did not feel very well having ordered completely different dishes. Nothing serious it seems, but very unpleasant.
The meal would have been expensive without this. With it, I am afraid it completely destroyed the experience.

Attractive indoor setting (it was cold so terrace not feasible) but chairs not as comfy as they should be and they are too low. Some reupholstering and refreshed furniture needed (these have been present for many years).
Food was OK - not bad but not special either and nowhere near as good as in the past.
The wines by the glass were below par (we had 3 between us) - need much better choosing!

The quality of the food was average at best...the souffle heavy and the duck undercooked and the risotto almost raw...very disappointing especially at these prices
