Preordered christmas menu. Over an hours wait for main course. No sprouts or pigs in blankets with Turkey dinner. Dessert was another long wait. Came with wrong ice cream and no popcorn. Coffee machine broken so unable to have an espresso martini. Hadn't taken off the £50 deposit paid from the bill. Quiz night so very noisy. Overall a very disappointing experience.

The worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. We came on the way to a Christmas activity. Arrived with 2 hours to spare. It took 20 mins for a drinks order to be taken and a further 30 mins for them to reach the table. After an hour and a quarter, our food had not arrived. We queried this at the bar (as no one had been to our table since delivering the drinks), no apology was given and we were greeted by a very rude manager. We explain that we had been waiting an hour and a half. We were told our meal was next. After an hour and 45 min wait we had had enough so paid for about drinks and left.

Although we booked a time and pre ordered food ((Christmas diner)on arrival we gave our name and was shown to a pub table, no reserve on it, we asked to be moved to area more in the dining area than a bar table. We were given a menu and had to tell them again we pre ordered Christmas dinner, the girl went to kitchen, she came back and said we have your choices but the sweet we had pre ordered had not been delivered my husband had to choose something of other menu.. We had booked for 1:30pm arrived at 1:20pm our dinner did not arrive until sometime after 2:15pm we didn’t realise at the time, that there wasn’t any pigs in blankets, we were just grateful the food arrived. I would mention that overall there is a lack of attentiveness by the staff, you’re left waiting to get someone’s attention and when we eventually able to order the alternative sweet course, being apple and raspberry crumble, when it arrived, there was a lack of raspberries ie None, this error was brought to attention of waiting staff, who simply replied “oh I’m sorry about that “. When I went to pay the bill, the girl couldn’t let me pay as we had paid £10 per head deposit as required through online booking and had to go ask the manageress to come out of kitchen, and sort it, 5 mins later the manageress found our bill and printed it, this was incorrect I challenged this and she said 3 sweets had been added on top accidentally as we had a pre ordered a 2 course meal, she then printed of another bill which was also incorrect, our £30 deposit had not been taken of, she then got it correct and I paid. Overall not a good Christmas dinner we had travelled 120 miles to take our Father out who live in Warrington for a Christmas meal, and was disappointed, other customers were raising their eyebrows at the bar also whilst waiting,. I don’t think it is the young girls waitressing’s fault, but lack of management.

Absolutely terrible place for Sunday lunch…if you are thinking of going don’t waste your money. Most of the menu was crossed out and unavailable. Roasts were still available but came with the most meagre portion of veg I’ve ever seen, such an embarrassment as I’d taken my mum there for a special birthday. Despite what it said on the menu I got 2 pathetic carrots and a tiny amount of soggy cabbage…no creamed leeks, no green beans. We waited so long for our food I had to ask where it was. When it came they forgot my mum’s lunch and I had to ask for it. My children ordered pudding but it took so long to come we left before any pudding arrived. Will most definitely not be back!

Sampled the lunch time menu which had a good choice of food for £11.50 plus a drink. Settled for the fish, chips and mushy peas which was an ample portion for a lunch time. Good service from Jaydene and didn’t have too long to wait for the food. The pub was nicely decorated for the Christmas season, very festive and cheery.

When we arrived were told we didn’t have a reservation and they were fully booked so we were turned away. We then managed to get a table for an hour later at the Little Manor at Thelwall and had a really wonderful meal in a great atmosphere.

Booked a table for 4 people for 3.30pm on a Sunday. We bought drinks and once seated were told that there were only 2 starters available and a reduced choice of mains. We chose from the menu and after 45 minutes were told that one of our mains was no longer available. At this point the starters, which were only the ham terrine, had still not arrived. We could hear the waiting staff explaining to other customers that items on the limited desert menu were also no longer available. After 55 minutes, with no sign of food arriving, we decided to leave. This was our first visit to the Pickering Arms, and sadly will be our last.

The food did take quite a while to arrive but it was certainly worth the wait! (Unfortunately, we had an appointment to go to so didn't have time for a dessert.) The staff who served us were polite and friendly and we'll definitely be back!

Food was amazing, as was the service from Rachel who was really friendly. We went on a Monday so it was a bit quieter but still a lovely place. Best pub food in the area!
