Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Randy Rucker

From the OpenTable editors: James Beard semifinalist Randy Rucker and his wife-partner Amanda Rucker opened this American gem in 2019 dedicated to spotlighting seasonal ingredients from the region. The intimate dining room feels like an extension of the open kitchen, where a four-course menu changes constantly, from sweet amalia oysters with buttermilk ponzu & trout roe to smoked steelhead trout with maple, celeriac & agretti. The results landed River Twice on the New York Times's list of the best Philadelphia restaurants.

Please join us as we explore the polarizing charm of lowbrow food elevated by highbrow ingredients, paired with Champagne selections from special guest Ken Schindler of Local Operator. Prepare for an evening of bubbly discourse as Ken and River Twice’s own Lily Herman highlight the mineral and saline-driven sparkle of Champagne Fleury in contrast with Chef Randy Rucker’s indulgent renditions. Ticket includes seven courses complete with Champagne pairing | 250 a person :: MENU :: tinned clams with preserved citrus & olive oil   queso blanco with fermented black truffle & fresh sourdough tortillas   fried potatoes with oyster mayo & golden ossetra caviar   mushroom gumbo with sea island rice peas & smoked maine unagi   dirty rice of monkfish liver, shrimp & maine uni   all beef hotdog with scallop xo, miso mustard & fried onions   black walnut clafouti with wild vanilla & apple butter ::ABOUT CHAMPAGNE FLEURY:: The Fleury estate was founded 1895 in Courteron in the heart of southern Champagne in the Côte des Bar. The domain lies nestled among the clay-limestone hillsides formed in the Kimmeridgian period by the first tributaries of the Seine. The Source of the River Seine begins 70 km upstream, towards Saint-Seine-l'Abbaye. The family’s passion for viticulture has been fueled by the adventure of Biodynamic principals, giving a new meaning to the profession. To be respectful of the natural and living heritage of this terroir, where custodians of the land forever learn, in all humility, to perceive the balance and to unearth its mysteries. Run today by the 4th generation, Domain Fleury is above all a family story of shared passion and innovation in the art of wine growing in accordance with nature. Under the drive and wisdom of Jean-Pierre, three of his children continue to keep the Fleury galaxy spinning!

Service was top notch, wine was really nice, but the food fell short, average at best.

Our server, Nick spoiled us with impeccable service. He was knowledgeable about wine and spoke to the food and presentations like a seasoned pro. Nick made our experience 10/10, although the complimentary caviar certainly helped 🙂

I have always leaned towards spice because of where I grew up and the culinary influences so River Twice was a revelation. The clean crisp flavors and the use of culinary techniques to enhance the dishes was something I have never experienced before. It was an emotional experience. The use of dehydrated mushrooms to enhance the tuna and then combining it with kumquats 🤯🤯🤯. My daughter and I are on a culinary journey, exposing ourselves to new flavors and and we have been trying some really awesome food but this is the first place we immediately wanted to return.

Impeccable service! We loved the seafood-centric menu, especially the scallops and the sea bass. The only thing is that the dessert might be too sweet to our taste and guys might find the portion size a bit small.

I heard the food at River Twice was hit or miss; it was definitely a miss this time. Every course involving seafood was fishy and the open kitchen had a nauseating fish smell. However, I will say that I am especially sensitive to fishy-ness. And, the only savory dish I mostly enjoyed (which I ordered as an addition, outside of the tasting menu) was 26 dollars for 6 tiny oysters overpowered by the flavor of buttermilk. The value of River Twice is outrageously bad and I don't understand how it could be a Philadelphia Top 50 restaurant.
