Booked a table for lunch. Booking asked if we wanted the bar or dining area. Selected dining room as we wanted somewhere quiet. When we arrived there was no sign of anyone around to show us to the table. Eventually found someone and were told we couldn't use the dining room and would have to go in the bar area. Looked in there and was confronted by loud thumping music. A couple in there already told us that you have to order everything and pay at the bar. Also commented about their dislike of the noise. Decided not to eat there if this was the way they treated customers so left and went elsewhere . Not likely tu return.

Well cooked food, good, friendly service. Comfortable "old-fashioned" pub. Chose to eat in the bar this time, but there is also a very nice dining room. Menu is "pub" food rather than fine dining. Lunch menu a bit limited and only a small number of lighter options available.

The quality of the food was excellent and the quantity provided was very good . Our only complaint was the time it took to serve it. Our reservation was for 2pm but the dinner arrived at 2-45. This was surprising as there was only 6 other people in the retaurant,

Table booked for 19.30 pm for fixed festive menu. Was not told straight away that this was no longer available. Given normal food menu for Christmas eve meal, ended up having to eat a bloody terrible fish and chips at 20.35 p.m. Staff looked stressed and embarrassed. Was offered absolutely nothing in compensation e.g free pudding or drink. Beyond disappointed as this is also my local pub.

Sadly not the royal oak i have always known...been here for over 15 years as a go to place to visit. Sadly, slow service and food quality wasn't as I've known it...maybe it was just a 'last weekend pre xmas' and all staff are exhausted vibe (trust me I work in the industry so understand) but if anything I just felt for them as clearly too much for them to handle :(

Good was ok but for the price, I’d expect it to be of a higher class.

Wrong drink delivered, mixed grill arrived without the steak and to round off the evening boiling hot tea was spilt on one of our party as a young inexperienced waitress tried to reach across the table with it in hand and then had no idea how to deal with it. Young inexperienced staff, trying their best with no help, support or training. Meal mediocre at best and very pricey. Money was knocked off the bill but even that was a farce as they couldn't make the till do it properly. Will never go back and felt very sorry for the young staff on duty.
