Satchmo's Corner
"What a Wonderful World"
Built in 1867, Satchmo's Corner sits in a wonderful old building in the market town of Rugby, famous for the game, Rugby School and for being
The Gateway to the Midlands.
Satchmo's Corner represents all one wants to enjoy in a restaurant, one might say. Take some time out of your day to slow down and relax in the epitome of comfort, in our soft lounge area or more formally at the table where you will be served food from our menus of modern British cuisine,
whether breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or evening meal all of which are cooked in-house by our amazing Chef's, who prepare, cook and serve
fresh food daily, Tuesday to Sunday.
Starting with an array of delicious choices.
Breakfast with an array of options is served 9am - 12pm, and our luncheon menu, from 12pm - 6pm.
Satchmo’s would not be complete if we didn’t offer our quintessentially English afternoon teas which are served 1pm – 4pm and followed by
dinner at 5pm.

Very nice decor. Only criticism on decor is too bright and spoiled the ambience of the dining experience. Turn some lights off! Food was only fair....my wife had ratatouille which was a main course at £18.75. That was the size of a side dish and therefore well over priced. Luckily she ordered some side dishes too which you shouldn't have too with a main. I had lobster tail which at £30 should have been a bit more substantial ...it only had 2 or 3 prawns with it.

I'll start by saying that I have been to Satchmo's several times in the past and think it is a beautiful venue with great potential to be an amazing place to eat. The 1st time we went the food was beautifully presented, quite up market and very tasty, albeit a little on the expensive side. There was a hostess who was very welcoming and friendly and really made it a stand out destination. Each time we have gone since though it has gone slightly downwards. On our last visit we went for afternoon tea to celebrate my 60th birthday as there was a swing jazz band advertised. Unfortunately the service from the head waiter/manager was not up to standard on the day. He forgot to bring our pot of tea with the afternoon tea, then forgot it again when we asked for it, and then forgot to bring the 2nd coffee we ordered. The afternoon tea was nice enough although some of the sandwiches were a bit basic and the cream and jam with the scones were a bit on the skimpy side, although you just have to ask for more. The band were excellent but finished playing 20 minutes earlier than advertised. Somehow it all lacked a bit of atmosphere which was a shame. Maybe it was just an off day but we're not feeling particularly inclined to go back.

Phoned prior to visit to check my allium intolerance could be catered for -was assured yes. An effort was clearly made & remembered on ordering when I was told they had kept a steak & a plain chicken breast aside for me: unfortunately neither of these would be my food of choice. Opted for the steak which was under-seasoned & a little gristly. Starter of scallops was prepared without allium & was excellent. Dessert of Pumpkin crème brûlée was absolutely delicious! Service needs improvement: orders taken promptly & first course served in good time, thereafter went progressively downhill. Very difficult to attract attention of staff and lack of attention to requests (e.g. no condiments offered when mains served, 2 attempts needed to get mustard served, had to leave table to ask for dessert menu …..) We all felt the room was nicely laid out with warm decor & comfortable seating. However, on a cold, windy day we were treated to several icy blasts when customers left the building without closing g the door after them - little can be done about the actions of thoughtless people but I am sure this could be improved with a bit of thought & imagination (effective spring doors, curtains etc. etc )
