Selden is rustic and casual, but with an ever-present eye for quality, creativity, and fun. Chef Andy Hollyday is a 2023 James Beard Foundation finalist and four-time semi-finalist. Selden Standard was also twice named a James Beard semi-finalist for Outstanding Restaurant (2024, 2025), and has been named Restaurant of the Year by both the Detroit Free Press (2015) and Hour Detroit (2016).

    Outstanding as always! Best restaurant in Michigan. Everything is amazing. We celebrated our 25th anniversary. The couple next to us was celebrating their second anniversary and they said last year they sat next to a couple celebrating 10 years. Service was fantastic. I don’t know if there is such a thing as perfection, but if there is, it’s Selden Standard.

    We came back to Selden Standard after a few years after a recommendation from a friend. Firstly, the most off-putting part of this was the $30 per person we had to pay as part of the reservation. After arriving we were greeted cordially and seated in the dining room. Chairs are unpadded and were a bit uncomfortable. The ambience is very casual and a bit noisy, but nothing intolerable. My main issue was the value of the food. Good, but not worth the price. We had 3 appetizer size plates (beet elote, steak tartare, halloumi cheese). Elote had a nice feta/chili cream sauce and was good but very salty. Halloumi cheese was disappointing. 4 very thin pieces of fried cheese with virtually no taste. The best item was the tartare. Well seasoned and very reminiscent of similar dishes in NYC. Had to ask for more sourdough toast as the pieces we received were burnt. This should have been caught at the pass and not served. Food total was $63 for those 3 items. With a couple of cocktails our bill was $130. Not a good value in my mind. There are lots of good restaurants in that neighborhood that provide better value for the money.

    We had an exceptional dining experience. The food was thoughtfully layered and well presented. Our wait person was attentive and informative. The food was delivered in a timely manner and we both went home, agreeing that we had just had an exquisite dining experience. Thank you!

    We love this restaurant and drive from Ann Arbor just to go here. No one does vegetables better and the chicken was incredible
