Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Parties of over six guests are required to order from our sharing menu on Fridays on Saturdays. For bookings in December we require an order from one of our festive sharing menus. Delicious food & great service as always. A great atmosphere for a Saturday night, the music is quite ‘clubby’ which wasn’t a huge deal for us but maybe a tad energetic to eat to. Wouldn’t stop us returning as we live the food. 3 of us shared 3 x starters & 3 main courses ( no drinks just water) = £134

I hadn’t been to Shanghai 1815 in a few years and it’s one of the best meals I’ve had out for ages!! Thank you for a lovely birthday meal everything we had was delightful. Food drinks and customer service was 10/10!

Me and my girlfriend had a lovely meal for her birthday, amazing food and service. Waiter really nice and friendly. Food portion sizes brilliant you won’t leave hungry. 10/10! Thank you

Shanghai 1814 is a first class Chinese Restaurant in Southampton We had a great experience there on Saturday January 18th Everything was excellent except for the deserts We have been to the restaurant previously and on that occasion we raved about the deserts as well the food overall Unfortunately on this visit whilst the rest of the food and the cocktails were exceptional the deserts were bland and tasteless We understand that the deserts have been changed since our last visit Whilst we will definitely return we would forego the deserts unless they have changed back to excellent previous quality

Beautiful restaurant with really nice food, perhaps more exotic non-alcoholic drink options would be nice, it’s a bit expensive but it’s a stunning place to have a meal, staff were friendly and food was served within a reasonable time.
