About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for fine wines
Having always been at the heart of Valley life, the 17th century Shibden Mill Inn was originally a corn and spinning mill, before being converted into a country pub in 1890.

Today’s visitors are welcomed with warm hospitality to enjoy first class dining against an inviting backdrop of open fires, low beamed ceilings and a cosy bar. Eleven individually styled bedrooms make comfortable and luxurious retreats, epitomising boutique country style and featuring lots of thoughtful touches.

And if you can drag yourself away from the Inn, there are wonderful walks from the doorstep and world class attractions within easy reach. For a spot of retail therapy or a cultural fix, Halifax is a 10-minute drive and Leeds is just 30 minutes away.

Food was lovely - when it came. But we did wait nearly 40 minutes for our starter (we ordered the food in the lounge area whilst waiting for our table to be free - and then we had to remind the server). And a drink arrived too late - but they did apologise and take it off the bill (I think they had a printer/ordering system glitch). If that was the case, the staff really should have noticed how long we we waiting for food. It was Sunday lunch, not a la carte, so one presumes the kitchen has items ready to go

Everything was excellent as regards the service, the food -main course good, the sweets really exceptional only downside was we were seated near a bit of an exhubrant and noisy table of guests but that's not the resturants fault, some people just need to let people know they are there and look at me.

I had been looking forward to coming here for a long time. Although it was a mid-week lunchtime booking and therefore very quiet we were seated in a very dark room at the back of the restaurant on our own. I wondered if it was because we had a dog with us but other people had dogs in the main rooms. The food was just ok. Service was good. Just disappointed with the whole experience really.

The vegetarian tart was cold and the pastry hard and old. On the base of the tart was a small plastic label perhaps indicating the tart had been purchased not made on site. The extra plate of broccoli was too salty. The sauces for my duck dish were too salty. The recommended more expensive glass of Malbec had seen better days. Staff coped well with our complaint and ammended our bill. We should have tasted the food and then left, but we were so looking forward to eating at this highly recommended venue that we didn't want to spoil our holiday.

A little disappointing, we came Easter Sunday and our food was luke warm, so we specifically asked if they could ensure it was warm following our last experience. We had the Sunday dinner and it was still not warm enough, no one came to ask if everything was ok until we had moreoless finished. We will still be back as we love the place but feel for the price everything should be spot on.
