We booked this place fairly last minute, however I’m glad we did. Took my partner here for her birthday and the food and service was exceptional - Chef Jun and our server, Luciano were amazing. Serving sizes (especially for the a5 wagyu) were generous and the food itself was great - flavourful, creative (especially with the dessert) and great texture. I would definitely love to visit the next time we’re back in Melbourne, thank you for treating my partner and I so well, especially for her birthday.

Pretty unusual (for me anyway) dining experience, seeing incredible food prepared right in front of you by a sushi master. Chef Jun made incredible food full of flavor in a very understated way, with beautiful presentation. Chef Takaro was a great sous chef and it was great seeing him work; the torched ika was a highlight I wasn’t expecting. I highly recommend the sake pairings; sommelier Luciano was very well informed and insightful on the origins of the sakes and why they were chosen for certain courses. Highly recommended.

The restaurant was an extremely bouje experience; the food and the service were fabulous. The experience is expensive but very much worth the cost for a special occasion The service staff are accommodating and knowledgeable regarding the sake and wine list, talking us through the options and how they would best suit the dish being served. Overall a fantastic restaurant

We recently had the pleasure of dining at here, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of elegance and warm hospitality. But it was the omakase menu that truly stole the show, offering an unforgettable culinary journey that highlighted the very best of Japanese cuisine. The star of the evening was, without a doubt, the A5 Wagyu. Each bite of this melt-in-your-mouth delicacy was a revelation. The marbling was exquisite, creating a rich, buttery flavor that lingered long after the last bite. The chef’s expert preparation allowed the natural flavors of the Wagyu to shine through, elevating it to an art form. It was perfectly seared, with a delicate balance of texture and flavor that can only be achieved by a true master. Beyond the Wagyu, every dish in the omakase was a testament to the chef’s skill and dedication. The sushi was pristine, with fish that tasted as if it had been plucked from the sea moments before being served. The attention to detail was evident in every aspect, from the precise cuts of sashimi to the artful presentation of each course. Every dish was thoughtfully paired with ingredients that complemented and enhanced the flavors, creating a symphony of taste that was both harmonious and exciting. The service was impeccable, with a knowledgeable and attentive staff who guided us through each course, providing insights into the ingredients and preparation methods. Their passion for the cuisine was evident, and it added an extra layer of flavour It is more than just a dining experience; it’s a celebration of Japanese culinary tradition, executed with the utmost care and precision. The A5 Wagyu alone is worth the visit, but the entire omakase experience is something that will stay with you long after the meal is over. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. It is a must

Our recent visit to Shusai Mijo left much to be desired. While the food was undeniably exquisite, the overall experience was marred by incredibly poor service. Upon arrival, we were greeted with indifference by the host maître’d. The ambiance, though initially promising, was quickly overshadowed by the terrible service. We were constantly made a mockery out of and the host maître’d could not stop rolling his eyes at our choice of no alcohol for the night and my friend’s enjoyment of the pickled ginger. Furthermore, they did not try to cater to our dietary requirements when most high end establishments would be more than happy to offer replacements at the exorbitant price that we were paying. When we informed the waitress of our dietary requirements, her “shocked” attitude is one where I would question if she should be working at a fine dining eatery. While the culinary creations showcased undeniable skill and creativity, the overall experience fell short of expectations due to the abysmal service. Dining out is not just about the food; it's about the entire experience, which unfortunately was sorely lacking at Shusai Mijo. For the premium price charged, the service was shockingly subpar as one would expect a seamless blend of outstanding cuisine and attentive service, which sadly was not delivered during our visit. I would caution anyone considering dining here to temper their expectations, especially if they value attentive service, but for those who prioritize exceptional cuisine and are willing to overlook service shortcomings, we definitely cannot fault the food quality.
