Being a Hilltop and Downtown Dough fan, I had to visit Somerville! The food was amazing, the ambiance, the live music. Im sadden to say that my experience with the service was not the best and for that i can’t give it a 5/5. Upon entry I was confused on how their system worked and the host outside did not explain much. I waited at the bar for a maybe 10 mins for my table. No sever greeted us for maybe 25 minutes. One of the managers came over and apologized and once our server arrived 25m later she still was not ready to greet us, just apologized again and ran off. I spoke to my server maybe 3 times because she was all over the place. I believe i just got unlucky. Most of the other servers seemed attentive. I was with a friend celebrating her birthday. I informed the server and she told me although they don’t do complimentary, she could put a candle and whatever dessert we chose. Long story short, we did not get a candle which really saddens me because other tables around us were. We were at our table for about two hours and 15 minutes, but the food came out quick and we could’ve been out and maybe 45 minutes.

Unfortunately…. We had to leave and did not get the opportunity to try the food or drinks. We left because we weren’t acknowledged. I had a reservation for 7:00. Still had to wait to be seated while the seated everyone who came in AFTER us. Once finally seated, it took a few minutes to get our menus and water. After that, our server never returned. Instead, he took the orders of those seated after us. So with this, we decided to leave. What a way to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary! So disappointed……. I made this reservation months in advance only to have to go somewhere else at the last minute.

I planned to dine at Somerville while visiting my college kid in L.A. I’ve been a fan of Issa Rae for years and wanted to support her new restaurant. I had an awesome experience. I went on Mother’s Day. Our reservation was at 10pm so unfortunately I missed the live entertainment. The band had just finished its last set. There was still jazz music playing throughout the evening which sets the tone for the nice ambiance. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. The color scheme, lighting, and decor made you feel welcomed. The food was superb. I tried the braised shortrib and my daughter had the striped bass. Each was cooked to perfection. We ate every bit of it. The staff was professional and provided excellent customer service. They were knowledgeable of the menu and went above and beyond to make our first visit a memorable experience. I can’t wait to go back. Thanks

All of the staff we interacted with were wonderful. The ambiance is very relaxing and the lighting is dim enough for a cozy feeling but bright enough to read the menu and see your food. Speaking of food, everything we had was AMAZING! This restaurant is without a doubt 10/10!

Our experience started off rocky. We were waiting a while to be greeted once we sat down but a server came by and acknowledged our actual server was a little busy and he would be right over shortly. Once he did arrive he appeared to be agitated and presented with an unpleasant demeanor as if he didn’t want to be there. His attitude was condescending like we were bothering him. He didn’t course our meals appropriately and proceeded to argue with us when we brought it to his attention. The manager eventually intervened and turned our visit around. The food was good and our replacement server was much nicer and more welcoming.

My group and I came in from out of town and was looking forward to this dining experience, however even with a reservation in place months in advance we had to wait an hour for our table only to be met with subpar service and cuisine. My thought process is that with a small, limited menu the items presented should be done well, but that was not the case. The drinks were great but the food items were lackluster at best - the breading on the chicken slider was soggy as if it had been sitting, the gem salad had a weird color, the Mac n cheese with lobster, the oysters and roast chicken were just okay. Overall, if I am back in LA this would not be a staple that I would return to. There needs to be changes with both front of the house and back of the house management.

Filets were excellent. Service was phenomenal. Drinks were good as well. Band was terrific. Super happy to have a great spot in our neighborhood that is walking distance from home!

The staff was so kind as my visit was a part of my bachelorette and we needed to get out of there by a certain time to go see Beyoncé. They not only made sure we left earlier but they were kind and the food was delicious.
