   The music was as loud as Chucky Cheese! Felix Navida blasted and all kinds of pop songs. It was hard to enjoy the food. The chestnut soup was just ok. Kind of bland. The chicory salad with several fruits was bitter. The beef en croute, excellent and the Buche Noel was decent. As my companion said the food was nice. Nothing very refined or Michelin starred quality. Service was like any restaurant in your neighborhood. Not particularly welcoming, nor attentive. But if managed to flag down a staff zipping by they were polite. When we left we waited by the reception stand. I guess she went home? No one there. Finally a waiter came by and asked me to pick my coat out of the closet. Thank goodness I'm honest. In short, not a happy Christmas Eve dinner due to the blasting music and ok food

   Great anniversary dinner with friends. The server and sommelier made great suggestions. All the food was delicious. Highly recommended!

   Beautiful ambience as we went the week of Christmas and we had a lovely table tucked into the side of the main dining room. Service was impeccable and food was wonderfully prepared with thought and care.

   After celebrating here about 10 years in row we had less than five star experience. Courses were rushed (place was sold out). Entree portions were more modest than we recall. Service excellent and good table location. Wine excellent

   Spruce is a beautiful and elegant restaurant. The service is impeccable. The cocktails were great, and the wine list is astounding, whether by the glass or the enormous bottle list. The prix fixe menu was uneven. Several people had the duck and thought it was great, as did the person who ordered the beef. I had the chicken and would say it was so so. An interesting concept, but overly fussy, very salty, and cooked unevenly. It was a combination of breast (which was dry) and thigh (which seemed under cooked). The whole plate was overly salted. The pear salad had some odd spice notes and was definitely a let down. It looked like an overcooked blob on the plate. A simpler presentation would have worked better. The desserts were uniformly delicious, and particularly the beignets. Overall the dinner was delightful and is one of the few fine dining restaurants left in SF. Pricey but worth it for the occasional splurge or celebration.

    A special occasion experience! My birthday dinner with my sisters was very special. I will give Village Pub the edge over Spruce, having dined at both in the same week over the holiday season. The food os impeccable at both. The difference is in the service and warmer more casual vibe at the latter.
