   Beautiful restaurant and excellent service. However the food was absolutely terrible. The salad tasted like pickled vegetables and the brioche was actually a Parmesan disk. The soup was very salty with again a pickled onion and salty croutons. The most disappointing dish was our main course. The chicken was barely lukewarm and the breast meat was dry. The potatoe was nothing special. The prime rib was also barely warm and frankly the House of Prime Rib does a much better job for a lot less money. The Yorkshire pudding was a small dry version of a popover. The sole was good but there was just a sprinkle of lobster. For the price there are many other restaurants in San Francisco with much much better food. Management was also trying to stiff me on my deposit . I called days before to reduce the number of people attending. Management refused to adjust the deposit amount and blamed it on open table. But open table claims any adjustments needed to be made through Spruce. This restaurant is overrated. Even the expresso martini was bad.

   Excellent as always. Super attentive staff that knows how to tread the line between attentive and annoying. Superlative wine selection. Superior choices by the glass to each a special pairing regardless of food choice.

   Let me start by saying this was not our first time dining at Spruce. My dining companion and I have dined at fine restaurants throughout the world. Last night upon arrival, the host was friendly and welcoming. The service was good but not without a few hiccups. Our waiter was friendly. We ordered two glasses of champagne and for some strange reason the wine list was taken away. Shortly thereafter our waiter described the dishes that were not on the menu. My companion and I were enjoying our champagne and our conversation. We had to ask for the wine list again to select a red burgundy to go with our food choices. When we finally ordered our meal, we ordered the pear and endive salad to share, we both ordered the little neck clam & potato chowder, we ordered the white truffle pasta (which had a supplement cost), she ordered the scallops and I ordered the duck and we both ordered the beignets. We were presented with the amuse-bouche and in than 5 minutes our soups and salad were placed on our table. That was unacceptable. We summoned the waiter and conveyed our displeasure. Our waiter apologized and removed the soups and salad. We were then able to enjoy our amuse-bouche. After that hiccup, the waiter made sure that we were served properly: starting with the salad followed by our soups and then our entrees. Unfortunately during dessert, other staff appeared to want to rush us and began approaching our table to see if we were finished eating despite the fact that we still had wine in our glasses and we were still drinking our coffee. The staff began to set up the table next to us and it was clear to see that our table was needed to accommodate the next diners. However, as your guests we should not have been rushed. That left a very bad impression. We settled our $868 bill and went to the ladies room. We walked by our table as we were leaving the restaurant and as suspected, our table had been moved over to join the other table to accommodate the larger group.

   This is a five star dining experience with impeccable service, food presentation, and ambience. It really is a special place where diners are on their best behavior and even well dressed. The menu choices are diverse but not exactly stellar for my palate today. And the food could have been hotter when served. I highly recommend the restaurant.

   The music was as loud as Chucky Cheese! Felix Navida blasted and all kinds of pop songs. It was hard to enjoy the food. The chestnut soup was just ok. Kind of bland. The chicory salad with several fruits was bitter. The beef en croute, excellent and the Buche Noel was decent. As my companion said the food was nice. Nothing very refined or Michelin starred quality. Service was like any restaurant in your neighborhood. Not particularly welcoming, nor attentive. But if managed to flag down a staff zipping by they were polite. When we left we waited by the reception stand. I guess she went home? No one there. Finally a waiter came by and asked me to pick my coat out of the closet. Thank goodness I'm honest. In short, not a happy Christmas Eve dinner due to the blasting music and ok food
