Simply awful from start to finish. Told during the booking that a guest was allergic to garlic and advised no issue. This was affirmed on the call the day before when confirming the booking. Upon arrival they advised that my guest could have a choice of only 3 starters and the duck or steak as a main. After ordering the duck, we were told that it was actually marinated in garlic so not appropriate for my guest. After many soulless apologies from various managers, the bill came at almost £700 for 6 guests. Service was immediately withdrawn given that we had basically been lied to and it had taken 2 hours for our main course to arrive even though the restaurant was very quiet. Food was average at best and didn’t really taste of much. An unpleasant experience overall and embarrassing when entertaining important clients. Avoid avoid avoid

We went here for our wedding anniversary after reading some reviews. We expected something special considering it was almost £60 per head and we had to pay in advance. We were really underwhelmed. There was am amuse-bouche which was nice, the tea selection and presentation was lovely and the waiter attentive. However, the food was not great. The "sandwich" element consisted of one finger/slice of a cucumber sandwich, one single piece of sushi and a single (very small) brioche bun with some content. There was a bao bun which as so full of "mayonnaise" that it was just sickly - honestly ITSU does it better. When I commented that the food was very sparse, I was told by our waiter that I was welcome to select more, but honestly, it was not appealing and the fact one has to ask for more is not really in line with what you expect from afternoon tea. It really does look sad when you are presented with 3 small "bites" on a plate. Being a special occasion, I was not in the mood for making complaints, plus, the "impact" was already made on our disappointment. The cakes came next and were NOT presented in a birdcage (which was one of the reasons to select this afternoon tea, i.e. something "different" and reminiscent of our honeymoon in Singapore), only a simple plate with 4 small cakes. they all looked nice, but were not very exciting to the pallet. We were given a plate with a lovely panna cotta with "Happy Anniversary" written next to it, which was nice. We ordered a glass of champagne, which arrived flat (it unfortunately spoke to the way the food had gone....below expectations) and, to be fair, was replaced at no cost. Ambience was dreadful, we were only people in there! Sunday at 4pm. Service, from ALL staff was first class from the doorman on entrance to everyone in the restaurant and bar, we felt looked after by them, but the food / presentation was well short of expectations.

Dear Andrew, Thank you for sharing your experience and for celebrating your wedding anniversary with us. I’m pleased our staff’s service met your expectations, but I’m truly sorry to hear the food and presentation fell short on this special occasion. Your feedback on portion sizes, champagne, and ambiance is invaluable, and we will use it to refine our offerings to better match the high standards we strive for. We regret that this visit did not fully meet your expectations and hope we can welcome you back for a more memorable experience in the future. Warm regards, Andrea Caldelari Food & Beverage Operation Manager

The menu change was very disappointing. The laksa and chicken rice was fantastic. Kinda lost your USP.

Dear Aiman, Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We understand how much our previous dishes like the laksa and chicken rice meant to our guests, and we’re glad they were highlights for you. Straits Kitchen & Bar has evolved into a fusion restaurant, where British culinary techniques and products meet vibrant Southeast Asian flavours, creating a unique dining experience. While the menu has changed, our commitment to quality and flavour remains. We hope you’ll join us again to experience our new offerings that celebrate this distinctive blend. One of the most disappointing service I got today. 1. No one was in the restaurant reception when we got there. Same happened to the following guests. 2. Slow in responding the customer need. Somehow all the waiters are hiding or something. 3. Weird service order. We got in first, ordered first, and somehow the guest behind us got his dish first. Same thing happened again when paying the check. Somehow the waiter treat us always in 2nd. I somehow need to rush a tea which is a "tea bag" pot when we almost finished our meal. 4. Overpriced and under deliver. The duck is not bad, but the chicken rice clearly only worth 15£ when the service is so poor. Ridiculous experience for this price.

Dear Tsun-Yi, Thank you for your detailed feedback. I am truly sorry to hear about the disappointing service you experienced at Straits Kitchen & Bar. Waiting at the reception, delayed responses, and inconsistent service order are certainly not the standards we aim to provide, and I apologise for the impact this had on your meal. We appreciate your comments on the menu’s value and presentation, and I will address these concerns with our team to ensure we better meet guest expectations. We hope to have the opportunity to provide a more seamless experience in the future. Warm regards, Andrea Caldelari Food & Beverage Operation Manager

We were really excited about our visit to Straits kitchen for Sunday roast. Staff were pleasant especially our waiter. The food was overall good but the main issue we had was that we were expecting some starters as advertised and there were none. Instead you could build your own laksa which was very tasty with some nice ingredients available. The choice of 4 roasts was good but the meats had been sat a long while and were cold. The chicken was very dry! Some nice patisserie desserts and a nice bottle of Prosecco included. I think we expected more from this high end Singapore based hotel than it delivered on the day! Shame!!!
