I’m a big fan of this under the radar neighborhood French Bistro. It’s like eating at a French friend’s house. Sakis and Jade are lovely hosts and the staff are uniformly charming. There’s a limited selection of good beer and wine. Josh Newman is an amazing chef. The small menu changes based on season and availability. He is amazing at combining flavors and textures to provide complex tastes. You can’t go wrong with the steak au poivre or the duck. The bread is excellent. There’s a new chocolate fondant dessert that tore a hole in the space-time continuum when I tasted it. Prices are reasonable. Give this place a shot- you won’t regret it!

This is a neighborhood gem that I never knew existed. We started with a glass of wine, which was good. The warm nuts, radicchio salad and crab toast were yummy. The duck and cod were absolutely delicious. And to end, the chocolate fondant was to die for. Looking forward to returning for Jazz night with live music.

Food is exceptionally delicious and beautifully presented. Shared quite a few new small plates to start, including the warm mixed nuts with rosemary (so addictive), Autumn Tarte Flambé, which is a perfect balance of sweet and savory, the Crab toast—both buttery and bright with lemon, and Radicchio salad with blue cheese throughout and candied walnuts for crunch. Finally, the Duck, now with figs and chanterelle mushrooms, is just so good. I chose to end the feast with a crispy Crème Brûlée, but also savored tastes of the Apple Torte and the decadent warm chocolate fondant. So much great food to choose from in this warm, welcoming unpretentious setting.

My son just moved to the UES. This is a lovely, local neighborhood spot. Food and service were excellent. Even the live music was great!! Will definitely go back.

It is my favorite place on the UES and in all of NYC, so that's saying something. CIA-trained Chef Newman can be counted on to create interesting and delicious new items, and his super power is his use of textures in all of his dishes. We tried the new crab toast which was lump crab meat lightly dressed in butter and a hint of lemon, with little bits of crunchy fennel (?) on a thick piece of buttered toast. A modern take on a crab version of a Connecticut lobster roll. We also had the charred broccolini served over romesco, and the texture came from the bagna cauda panko, the autumn tart flambee - a light phyllo-like crust topped with roasted honey nut squash, speck , and a crispy sage leaf(!), the radicchio salad which came with thin delicate but crunchy honeycrisp apple slices, blue cheese and the crunch came from candied walnuts. Get the idea? Each bite is so interesting and balanced. The Long Island duck had a seared breast and a confit leg and was served with figs and chanterelle mushrooms. Every bite delicious. And a special compliment on their warm baguette and lovely salted swirl of butter that is served to each table. Is it the baguette? Is it the butter? Whatever it is, it is particularly addictive. I cannot say enough good things about this place - the food, the service, the ambiance, the inventiveness and the consistency. I bring all my friends and family as often as I can (sometimes more than once a week - don't judge me) and on my way out tonight, I convinced a couple who were standing near the door perusing the menu to go in, guaranteeing them a delicious dinner and a memorable evening.
