   One of, if not THE best meals I’ve ever had! Everything from the service, menu, atmosphere, wine pairing, and actual food were unbelievable.

   We have been holidaying in vail since 1997. I have witnessed many changes. The evolution of a ski mountain to MTN. Restaurants have come and gone. Some are stayers and do not evolve. Sweet basil has evolved. Our family night was wonderful from the courteous front staff, to the knowledgeable service staff that were quietly efficient. The wine list was comprehensive. The food was the highlight. Appetizers such as Spanish octopus to tartare and bone marrow were a superb start. The entrées were a comprehensive menu ranging from pork duck fresh cod. The flavors were eclectic and memorable. I can highly recommend sweet basil as a must dine restaurant in Vale..

   While this has been an iconic gem and having had excellent meals in the past, today we were extremely disappointed. Our fish entree came out raw. The waitress’s reaction was completely unprofessional about it. Instead of being apologetic she proceeded to treat us like we had a disease despite the fact that we were very polite. She then brought it to the manager’s attention who was more professional and acknowledged that the fish was undercooked yet did nothing to make up for the fact that we chose not to get another entree. Also the hostesses have become very rude in handling reservations. Given the attitude of everyone I still would not go back despite the food being very good.

After speaking with the manager from that evening, she noted that we did try to remedy the situation by taking care of your desserts, however, if there was a discrepancy with your check, please reach out to us so we can further explain the situation

   Had the cod and the short ribs. Excellent. I recommend the Longfellow cocktail for those bourbon drinkers. This is our favorite place in the village.

   Cocktails were creative & delicious. Appetizers: bone broth with ginger & lemon grass, and whipped feta were both excellent. Duck breast was tender & perfectly prepared. The beef & broccoli got rave reviews from my friends. Sticky toffee pudding was rich & decadent. Sweet Basil lives up to the stellar reputation.

   My most recent meal at Sweet Basil was one of the best I have had there, yet. I like this restaurant, but as with any restaurant, there are some meals that are better than others. Last night we had a wonderful meal- the caramelized onion lasagna and the crab pasta dish. Both were exceptional and served piping hot, which is not easy to do in the cold mountains.

   My family went in with high hopes. The atmosphere was wonderful. Our server was engaged and professional. Unfortunately, the Iberian pork dish I ordered was inedible. It was almost entirely bone and grizzle. My husband and son ordered the crab pasta which was sitting out too long before it was delivered to our table and it was cold.

   We had an amazing experience! It was our first time going to this restaurant after seeing many reviews. We tried several things to share and every thing was delicious! The French onion lasagna with truffles and citrus salad were a great start! The beef and broccoli + Colorado striped bass were excellent! The service was great, as well! Highly recommended.

    We’ve been going to Sweet Basil for 20 years and watched it through the ups and downs. Definitely on the down again. Inattentive staff where we had to ask if we had a waiter. When our waiter finally bothered to show up, seemed disinterested and unfriendly. Poor communication between staff. Apps and food came out lukewarm and obviously had been sitting there for awhile. Flavors were great but this place is obviously trading on its past reputation. Not worth what they charge until they get the front of the house together and many of our friends have had the same experience.
