   Service was good but the food was not as good as I was expecting for the price. The lobster and steak were good but the shrimp was overcooked. The rice is way too garlicky and the vegetables were boring. It did come with Miso soup and salad which were good. The included pickled vegetables were not necessary. Overall, the ambiance was nice and the staff was very nice and attentive but the food was not as good as it should have been.

   We made a reservation but had to wait still for over 20min to be seated with no apology for the delay. Food was okay, but the entire family got sick that evening. Ordered the chicken and it was not throughly cooked. A bit disappointed for the cost.

   I have been going to TANAKA at Ala Moana for the last 20 years. Mr Steve Wright is the worst manager I have ever met there. He is the Assistant GM.

   What is happening with Tanaka of Tokyo West? It seems that the quality of the experience is diminishing. From reservations, to the chef who showcases his talent in entertaining the patrons while cooking the food, to the actual food itself, the experiences in general have not been what we've enjoyed throughout the years and the many times that we have had dinner here. On one of our recent visits, the restaurant had our reservation, but failed to put it on their schedule. I will give credit to the manager who sat us quickly. Still it is not a good feeling to be told that you don't have a reservation when you actually do. The last 2 chefs, perhaps 3 were less than what we've grown used to. Fast, entertaining, perfectly cut and food cooked to perfection. Instead the performaces were slow, boring with little show, and the food cut quite unevely with pieces being too large. We've seen the performance many times, but still the chefs that we've had in the past managed to add twists to the show to keep us well entertained. Finally, the food. I always order the Filet and almost everytime, the meat melts in your mouth. The last couple of times, my wife's Tanaka Sirloin rivaled the Filet. Not good. I should mention that the service has been excellent. My wife's and I 1st date was here so we'll continue to patronize this restaurant. I can only hope that things improve!

   Dear Mr. Uyeda, Thank you for your past patronage. During your past two visits, our GM handpicked one of our best kitchen managers, and one of veteran chefs of +15 years. Both are highly requested and consistently receive wonderful comments. Your chef during your most recent visit received all “Excellent” ratings from the other parties he cooked for, and specific comments about how “great” he was. We also continue to serve the same high-choice Certified Angus Beef that we have for over 4 decades. Our beef is pulled from only 2 of the top plants in the nation. We made this arrangement to guarantee consistency and the best quality beef for our operations. Each and every delivery is inspected, and during the rare event if what we receive is not up to standard, the product is returned.

   The food was okay but the service was poor. We had to ask the server multiple times for forks and water. The cook sprinkled some salt in strawberry daiquiri, trying to be funny I guess?

   Special Thanks to Head Chef Joe and our server Luke for taking an amazing care of our dinner! It’s our annual birthday & holiday dinner at Tanaka of Tokyo and they always delivered. Memorable time as always!

    We are long time and frequent patrons of Tanaka of Tokyo west. Perhaps it was the time of night 8:45 reservation, but most everything seemed off. It was just the two of us at our table, the adjoining table was finishing up. Outside of the very friendly hostess, it just seemed the staff had run out of steam. Slow to bring drinks (water and tea), we had to ask for refills,. Everyone was nice enough but just seemed over it. Our chef was friendly but same, just out of steam. The food was greasy and soggy- in particular the vegetables. The portion sizes are definitely smaller on the sides which I guess you dine there for the mains but even the main 3 - veggies, meats and fried rice seemed anemic this night. You should receive the same service and quality no matter what time you come in but I sugggest not reserving at 8:45 I guess……
