Dishes were small and some too spicy. Didn’t expect it.

Their menu changes completely every few months, but we've been going regularly for over 2 years, and have never had a bad meal. We've always had good service as well. Although not inexpensive, their meals offer a reasonable value compared to other restaurants within easy walking distance of the Chandler Pavilion/Music Center.

Lovely pre opera dinner. We will do it again. The food was delicious, the waiter excellent, and so pretty on the patio.

The six of us were surprised that so many of the dishes on the menu were no longer available since we arrived at the restaurant early in the afternoon. It was a wonderful surprise when we were served several appetizers free of charge as a way to apologize for the inconvenience. We will definitely return. Many thanks! Linda

It's very convenient if you're attending a show at the Music Center. They constantly rotate in new chefs, so the menu changes frequently.

The food was good, but a bit skimpy. Huevos Rancheros was original in that there were no tomato chunks, just black beans with a crisp tortillas and a delicious sauce; eggs perfectly poached; but it sure was not a fattening lunch! The Bison Sandwich had a great taste with a salsa verde, but not a lot of bison in it. Great friendly welcome and service. Great location too, next to the Opera, with lots of passersby - quite a show!

My friend and I were planning to attend a performance at the Mark Taper Forum last Saturday night. On the same night was a premier of the film, WICKED at the Ahmanson Theatre. In order to avoid any issues with traffic going into the theater area, we decided to make a reservation at Abernethy’s. We had tried it before but not with this particular chef (who has been there since September). I had checked out the menu in advance and everything seemed like it would be delish. It was lighter fare and appeared to be a fusion of multiple-ethnic flavors. Each dish exceeded our expectations. We started with the Tomatillo Salad which was so fresh and exploding with a burst of flavor. I wanted to lick the remaining Cilantro Vinaigrette (but did not). Next, we shared the Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Salsa Macha which was another yummy dish. Then came the entrees. Bravo Chef Pyet Despain! He had the Pacific Salmon with Mushroom & Poblano Wild Rice with a Maple & Thyme Glaze. I had the “to die for” Cod cooked in a banana leaf served with cherry tomatoes, onion and covered in a light sauce I cannot describe. Ok, it had a creamy lime flavor that left me wanting more. I hope I get the opportunity to come back before the next chef steps up. I’m dying to try more of Chef Pyet’s dishes! Fabulous 👏👏 Btw: I almost forgot to mention the attentive staff. Everything was perfect from start to finish. It was a beautiful night to sit outside under a heat lamp and enjoy a quiet meal before a high energy performance.
