The Belgian Monk opened in December 2000. The main objective was to create something different yet to fit in with the way drinking and dining is changing. It has become a successful and established bar and restaurant, offering customers a choice of a regular selection of some 45 beers together with a selection of special beers. The menu is based on serving only the best products available freshly prepared daily, at realistic prices, in an informal relaxed "friends and family" atmosphere. It provides more than just the meal or drink but a whole Belgian experience. Now owned and run by Wursty Four Biers Ltd the new owners hope to take this fantastic venue to new heights and enhance the service style and offer. Sincerely not to be missed!

You really come to this place for the beer, and there’s a great selection. The food is ok, nothing special. Portions are on the small to average size. The baked Camembert comes with a very small amount of bread. Vegetarian options are alright but nothing special. Service on a Saturday night is painfully slow.

The 4 meals were very good, the bar could have done with perhaps a couple of more staff, always enjoyable though

Staff were attentive and took drinks orders quickly. Ordered food which took nearly an hour to arrive, at one point not a single person in the restaurant area had food in front of them, when food did arrive the side order was missing but despite that the food we did have was good.

A lovely meal at the Monk. The pork belly was excellent and went very well with a couple of Dubbels. Service was good although a little slow, but we weren't in a rush.

Today was one of the worst experiences we’ve had at the Belgium monk. I was called at 11:42 before our table time at 1:15 to be told there is no fish and no muscles on the menu, and if we wanted to cancel the booking because of this. We decided to keep our reservation because it was such little time to find a table elsewhere. We then sat down for our meal and ordered drinks. We waited a total of 1.5 hours at which we asked for second time how long would our food be, to be told it would take another 15mins. so at this point we chose to leave. Won’t be returning the place is not the same.

It was our anniversary and we booked a table especially for the mussels. Sadly there was a very limited menu with no fish being served. We chose some small plates and 2 of our choices were also not available. If the limited menu was shared when we booked the table we would not have bothered. We ended up leaving without having any food and finding a table elsewhere. Very poor communication and very disappointing.

Had we known that half the menu items were not available to order, we probably wouldn’t have chosen the Belgian monk for lunch today. The menu has never gone back to pre Covid selection and is since much reduced, so not much left to choose from….but food we ordered was nice.

It’s the only perfect score I’ve ever given and I’ve been using OpenTable for many years. The food, service, and ambience are top-notch. What a gem in a beautiful city.
