Welcome was friendly and service ok but food disappointing sadly. Roast potatoes were overcooked and black underneath , veg uninspiring and a bit sparse , chicken leg ( not carved off a roast chicken) bland and not crispy , Yorkshire flat and no stuffing . Christmas pudding nuked and partly inedible with not enough brandy sauce . Mentioned overcooked pudding to the waitress who just shrugged and said she didn’t eat Christmas pudding. All topped off by intermittent barking of dogs at the nearby table. Also not keen on one of the dogs seated with nose on the table ☹️ Shame as it’s a lovely location and could be so much better

Very nice country pub. Pleasant staff. Decor could do with a bit of a makeover. Overall a good dining experience.

The initial service was poor. We arrived and were left standing at the bar for some time before anybody acknowledged our arrival. The soup starter was good, however, the white bait starter was an extremely small portion. The roast beef was below average. All sweets were extremely good. Again, once we received the bill, the lady disappeared into the garden for a cigarette, so we paid at the bar and left.

We both had the chicken pate starter. It had a peculiar bitter almond taste. The moussaka was not too bad but the chicken parmigiana was smothered in strong cheddar cheese without a touch of mozzarella or parmesan.

Drinks were great, ambiance good. Food was fair, Lasagne dry, chips were fries (for £13!), salad ok. Poor staff member serving, was behind the bar and serving food which often left the bas un-attended. Love this pub in the past, but the food has gone down hill, expensive for what it is.

I thought it had improved considerably since my last visit and it was particularly nice to be able to have the dogs there.

Arrived for a table booking at 6.30pm No complaints of food best bit of advice to have another person to help out outside tables still needed clearing of dirty plates and glasses girl behind the bar had to answer the phone, serve the drinks, take food orders and bring food to the tables - basically rushed off her feet !!! Could be 'outstanding' !!!

Tucked away off the beaten track, four of us visited the Candlestick on the hottest day ever - no breeze and 36/37 degrees! We ordered sandwiches and starter portions for lunch, all of which were good. We felt a little sorry for the poor girl behind the bar who seemed to have to do everything, which was quite a lot as there were a number of people in who were setting up for a fair/exhibition starting the following day. An enjoyable, if not outstanding, visit.
