The Catbird Seat is an intimate, chef-driven restaurant and culinary incubator that provides chefs a creative outlet in an interactive and open kitchen setting. With just 20 seats arranged around a U-shaped counter, guests are offered a front-row view of the chefs at work, crafting a 10-12 course tasting menu that evolves with the seasons.

Currently led by Chefs Tiffani Ortiz and Andy Doubrava, the menu features a dynamic selection of dishes that emphasize sustainability and innovation. Drawing on ingredients preserved from past seasons, foraged finds, and items from their larder, Ortiz and Doubrava showcase their commitment to creativity, resourcefulness, and a modern approach to sustainable cooking.

From the OpenTable editors: When it opened 2011, Strategic Hospitality’s flagship tasting restaurant kicked off a new era of fine dining in Nashville. In addition to racking up accolades from GQ and Bon Appétit, Catbird Seat has been an incubator for some of the city’s top chefs. Today, Tiffani Ortiz and Andy Doubrava command the open, counter-style kitchen, turning out innovative New American tasting menus that can stretch to 18 courses of dishes like a walnut cookie filled with chicken liver mousse and berry preserves.

    A really special dining experience. Food prepared in a way a person will rarely have the opportunity to try. Served by the chefs creating the dishes and paired with small vineyards or allocated wines. Be adventurous and try the Catbird Seat….you will not be sorry!

    We chose Catbird Seat because we were seeking a gastronomical experience. We wanted interesting textures and flavors that would make us close our eyes and smack the counter. Executive chefs, Tiffani, Andy, and their team provided that and more. Each course was exemplary. The attention to detail and creativity was clear in presentation, taste, and texture. Their soufflé literally brought a tear to my eye (and a smack to the counter). So many of the elements were not only pretty and tasty but they were downright fun. In addition to the beautifully curated menu, my husband and I chose a wine pairing and their non-alcoholic pairing. The wine pairing was thoughtfully matched and every drop was delicious but in my opinion, the shining star was the NA pairing. A good pairing is key for a well-rounded experience and often if you don’t drink alcohol, you’re missing out on part of the intended culinary program design. Not in this case. The NA pairing was a fascinating dive of flavors that complemented every bite and was more interesting and provided an even better palette experience than the wine. What a gift to the sober folks. My husband and I are food science geeks, ambitious home chefs, and passionate about a fine dining experience. Thank you to the Chefs and their team for entertaining our questions, curiosity, and giddiness. We can’t wait to come back.

    What an incredible evening and one my husband and I could not be more grateful to ring in 2025! The special nye menu was so special. Was our first time under chef Andy and chef Tiffani tutelage and leadership. What a moment! Can’t wait for the next time!

    Simply exceptional. The entire team was a delight to interact with; they went above and beyond in ensuring we had a wonderful dining experience. The courses were so thoughtfully prepared, offered unexpected surprises to the palate, and yet very approachable. You could tell the chefs honor the science and joy of their craft. We surprised ourselves in choosing the non-alcoholic drink pairings; they were just as intricate and delightful as the meal. Worth every bit of the price. If you don’t have an adventurous +1, don’t wait—go alone.

    This was boring. Squash. Squash. White wine. White wine. Squash. Squash. One constant note of nothing. Very disappointing. I would be ok with someone taking a chance and missing badly. This was nothing, wrapped in squash.

    Absolutely lovely experience. Every course we kept saying was our new favorite. The service was incredible. The food was phenomenal. We did the N.A. drink pairing and it was truly out of this world. We cannot wait to go back
