Met friends for Sunday lunch. The food was nice and the staff were friendly. The atmosphere was quiet, and the table area was clean and tidy.

Usually our favourite local for good food, pleasant atmosphere and great service. Unfortunately, they have re-introduced showing football on tv in the bar. It was a Saturday evening, but even still, the noise level was off the scale to the point of being uncomfortable. Even having a normal conversation in the restaurant area was almost impossible. Sorry to say it really spoilt our evening, so we just had a main course and left as soon as we could to relax at home. There’s a new menu, but less choice on mains and I’m vegetarian, so very limited. We just had a burger each, one veggie, one beef and although quite tasty, with a beer and service, the bill was £55 which seemed excessive. Overall, a disappointing experience.

Went to the Chelsfield on Easter Sunday with the family…(8 people) booked in advance but on arrival was seated away from the restaurant. In the function room towards the rear. Most of us had Roast Dinner…portions were small and you got 1 roast parsnip & 1 pig in blanket. Meat was nice, but veg was mushy. £18 each this did not feel like good value. Service was decent though.

The worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. Table was booked for 3pm and we weren’t seated until 3.30, as it was Mother’s Day, didn’t think much of it. Most of the Mother’s Day set menu was unavailable and substituted with other cheaper options but the set menu price stayed the same. Waited over 2hrs for our starters. Overall dinner took 4.5hrs. Each roast dinner had different clubbed together vegetable sides. Potatoes were cold and dry and you needed a straw to eat the cauliflower cheese, it was so watery. To top everything off, a fingernail was found in one of the desserts. The area manager was full of pathetic excuses. Would not recommend!

I enjoyed my meal and indeed the whole experience: online booking was easy, the menu was imaginative and the food very good. Our waitress was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Not cheap, but in life you tend to get what you pay for, and I think it’s good value. I will return for sure and am happy to recommend The Chelsfield to friends and family.

Had a very enjoyable meal. Met with the smell of burning wood from the log burner, lovely staff and good food. Will be going again.
