   Had the roast and it was very tasty but portions maybe on the small side. Had the apple crumble for dessert and it was fantastic. Service was very good

   Dined at The Chequers for the first time. Typical pub grub. It was OK, but not great. 1 starter, a cheese souffle, was sadly awful. It was dry, tasteless and terribly overcooked. The other starter a cheesy garlic bread was very nice. I would suggest the chef should stick to simple starters. Soufflés are notoriously difficult to get right unless you really know what you're doing. Our mains fish and chips and a Cumberland pin wheel sausage were fine. Nothing special but perfectly OK. The Chequers don't serve Guinness but they did have an alternative which was OK. The staff were friendly and very polite. There was little ambience in the place. Partially not there fault as apparently they were having a problem with their heating so the fire wasn't lit and radiators cold. They had little electric heaters blowing out hot air but it was still drafty and chilly, not a nice environment to eat a meal in. We didn't hang around once we'd eaten our meal due to feeling cold. The decor was quite sparce and dull, but that's just my opinion. I would go back to give it another try because the staff were so nice, but not until they have proper heating. I like that they change their menu up regularly with I think is a plus. Overall a mixed experience.

   A bit cold in the pub but great food and service. Loved the pudding, little added details and very tasty.

   A gorgeous meal served by friendly and efficient staff. We had no idea about this place in advance but very quickly our fears were allayed. We are looking forward to returning soon!

    Really delicious food. Good value for money and the staff were happy to put the fire on as the evening was chilly. Definitely returning again soon!!!
