  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for business meals
The Commoner in Downtown Pittsburgh is open for business!

At our gastropub, we don’t distinguish between commoners and kings; we just want to feed the good people of Pittsburgh. In the restaurant, seasonal menus add a modern flair to classic comforts, complemented by a robust selection of local beers and craft spirits. It’s all served in an industrial-inspired setting in downtown Pittsburgh. Come and join us for an uncommonly good time.

We went for the Easter brunch buffet. The food was good but the choices were very limited for the price.

I was really looking forward to Easter brunch, but it was a major letdown. At $75 per person (not including drinks), I expected a quality experience, but the food was cold, bland, and completely underwhelming. There were very few options, no real desserts, and the pastries were stale. For the price, this felt more like a cafeteria meal than a special holiday brunch. Definitely not worth it – I won’t be returning.

We went for the Easter Beunch buffet and were disappointed. No cold food was on ice and no warm food was in chaffing dishes or under heat lamps. 90% of the food was room temperature. When we raised the issue they assured us it wasn't the case and that the staff was checking temperature or the food was being turned over quickly enough. Then, to try to throw a bone they brought out some shrimp salad right out of the fridge. Uhhh, ok? The staff did what felt to me like their impersonation of someone who minimally cares about the issue. It wasn't enough and wasn't convincing.

Sadly not a great experience for Easter brunch. Food choices were very limited. The food that was available was well prepared although not the correct temperature. The hot food was not hot, and the cold food was not cold. Expected much more selection for the price that was paid.

We have dined here for lunch and dinner over the past several years and have had outstanding meals that did not disappoint. So we decided to try Easter bunches since we were in town. I’m sorry to say it was not an outstanding/exceptional meal. While the beef was very good, the lamb was tough /chewy. All the food that should have been served hot was either cold or luke warm. For instance, there were 2 serving dishes of potatoes and both were cold. The other items were good but nothing outstanding. Our server removed our plates timely and was attentive. One non alcoholic would have been a nice touch for the holiday.

Disappointed - billed as an American Tavern but the dinner menu is way too fancy. Turns out they have smash burger from the lunch menu not on dinner menu. Super tasty with secret sauce but the fries were way too salty. Price for a burger in Pittsburgh especially was way too high - two burgers and fries one beer $65 before tip. We are well traveled and this seemed over the top.

Seemed to be understaffed, and thus service was severely lacking (waited 15 min before drink order was taken, another 10 to receive drinks), and a vegetarian dish was served and upon biting into discovered flakes of salmon throughout… took another 10 min to bring it to staff attention to replace the meal. 3/4 dishes were perfect and tasted excellent. Drinks were delicious so quality made the experience but was overal disappointed. Table next to us was so irritated for time it took to receive their drinks they got up and left.

We stayed at the Monaco in Pittsburgh and wasn’t planning to eat there but we had breakfast the first day and it was fabulous! The ambience, service and had the best Eggs Benedict i have had in a long time! And the potatoes served with it are sublime! We enjoyed our breakfast so much the first day we cancelled our reservations at another nearby restaurant and made reservations again at the Commoner! This time I had the chicken and waffles! Best waffle! Highly recommend this restaurant but reservations are a must as it fills up fast especially on the weekends!
