The savory food was excellent. Desserts were good to very good, but not great. Server was nice, but didn’t do a great job refilling water. The space seems to work better for the brasserie than it did for the previous iteration.

Not only was the food impressive at The Essex Brasserie, but the ambiance and service was exceptional, as well. From wine to food to cocktails, our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, which made ordering lighthearted and breezy. With a party of 5, noise level could become a concern. But the volume was at a minimum all night, even as the dining room and bar filled up on a Saturday evening. Also, although the menu may seem pricey, the quality of food and generous servings more than make up for it - you are truly getting what you pay for. Although we loved everything we got, among our favorites were the Nantua Moules Frites, Lobster Thermidor, and the Filet (which was cooked to perfection). We will absolutely be back!

Classic French recipes at a reasonable value that reminded me of my time in Europe. Cassoulet and sole/fluke meunière are my favorites. Good wine list by glass, more than sufficient to pair with the individual menu items. Amazing complimentary bread/brioche.

They are trying to do French bistro, but my beef short ribs were rubbed with 5-spice powder, an odd choice that I was willing to try. Unfortunately, the spices tasted unpleasantly burned. My wife had the duck salad and mussels, she was pleased with her meal. We were both disappointed that the cassoulet was only available Friday nights, but now we know. We’ll try again some Friday night. We’d love to see a restaurant succeed in this spot. One more thing, my wife’s french fries were sublime, just perfect.

Paul, We did notice the short rib issue unfortunately, and that is 1000% an avoidable and solvable mistake on our part. We are so happy your wife loved her meal and french fries. We do do that cassoulet as a plate du jour on fridays, so we hope to see you on an upcoming friday. We would love to show you are new batch of course corrected short ribs that will be out of the oven by 5 pm this evening and we would love to show you the true nature of the dish. As far as the five spice, The Essex Brasserie is not a traditional French Bistro, we are a French Bistro with a New England Perspective. And the short rib, as is intended is a play on chinese take out beef and broccoli that has long been a favorite of our guests... when properly executed. We will reach out soon!

We sat at the bar and had a great time. Peyton, the bartender was lovely and attentive. Mike, the manager, has a friendly and gentle manner. We noticed that Essex has a bunch of regulars which speaks to the steady quality of their culinary fare. We enjoyed happy hour as well as our entrees - we ate moules e frite, and truffle risotto. We capped off our meal with a creme brûlée which was excellent.

New years Eve , They did not have 3-4 of the main courses listed on the menu. The waitress was very pleasant but not very knowledgeable when coming to the menu . It was a very disjointed experience.
