Service was very good as usual but the menu has changed with most of the items I usually choose from are not there anymore so it's not likely we'll be back

We have dined at the Gate on a number of previous occasions and have found the experience to be consistently good, however last night the quality of the meals served was very disappointing, with 3 out of 5 of the main meals we ordered arriving overcooked and unappetising. There was also a longer than usual delay between the starters and main courses being served. The staff were polite and pleasant but seemed overstretched to accommodate the number of diners. The recent change of menu is in my opinion is a move in the wrong direction and reverting to the previous menu, plus additional staffing would, i think go some way towards resolving the problems we encountered. Overall what should have been an enjoyable celebration for my husbands 70th birthday was unfortunately a huge let down.

Three of us had very good Italian dishes. One of us found the risotto bland and tasteless. The service was very good and the staff were pleasant and friendly.

Not a great experience on Valentines Day. Arrived at booking time and was promptly shown to our table. Drinks ordered and didn't take too long to come, then we ordered starter between us and 2 mains. Starter came and was really nice (arrancini) then we waited, waited and waited some more. Finished our drinks and watched 3 members of staff wander through the dining hall but not one of them picked up on the fact we had no drinks. In the end I called someone over, drink ordered and 20 mins later still not arrived, had to ask someone. We waited and hour between starter and main i had Risotto parmeganio which was the biggest disappointment. It was so bland, no taste at all. I left most of it and not once were we asked if everything was OK No desserts offered and when we received the bill thete was £3 added for water we didnt have. Very disappointed and certainly won't be going back.

We’ve been to this restaurant a few times, usually very good, however it was not up to their usual standard on this visit. One meal had to be returned, it was a pasta and salmon dish, it was very bland. 4 of us ordered peppercorn sauce to accompany our steaks, it was awful, very thin consistency and greasy, our steaks were excellent though. The service was a bit chaotic, we had to ask for things numerous times. There was a bit of an attitude from one of the staff when we received the bill, the returned dish hadn’t been removed, we had asked for it to be when we initially complained about it, he argued that we had said everything was great when they asked, this was incorrect. Hoping this was a one off and will return.
