On the whole the food was excellent and the setting is really, really good. Would certainly recommend it to others.

We got sat next to a family and their children just wouldn’t keep still to the point of nearly kicking my wife

As we weren't in the grill but in the spa cafe this was disappointing. Didn't like the ambience, being surrounded by people going backwards and forwards in their robes. The sandwiches had poor amounts of filling and the bread was quite dry as it was obvious they had been refrigerated rather than freshly made.. The scones were more like cake and the cake that looked as if it might have been a bakewell was dry. Overall it was poor and I wouldn't recommend. The staff that were on were friendly and helpful but there was only two on so service wasn't as quick as it might have been - not their fault.

Pretty poor. Average food but at high end London prices, massively overpriced drinks (£32 for 2 gin and tonics), tatty restaurant with sticky tables and seated in a long narrow conservatory with all the atmosphere of a hospital corridor. I won't be going back.

Poor service- not enough staff. Mediocre food could be found in any local pub, twice the price of the locals! What a let down from the very fine restaurant it once was. Will not be going back.

The crowd goes mild. This place is a joke in terms of food quality, service and price. There's a never ending list of issues and incompetence. If I hear the staff say 'sorry' one more time, I will cut my ears off and suggest that you put them on the menu as it'll be better than 80% of the options on there. This place should be shut down.

A hotel/restaurant in its death throws. From a non existent welcome when we arrived to sending back both meals, no interest from staff (we didnt see anyone smile or engage any customer in conversation), to a scruffy environment and a hotel/restaurant that seemed to be making a play for worst restaurant on the Wirral. Staff were scruffily dressed, a well practiced demeanor of 'why are you here?', and seemed genuinely surprised by questions like 'can we order wine before we order our meal?' Our opening request for cocktails, led to a shabby black A4 file being opened to look up if they did an aperol spritz and a negroni and the waiter then proceeding to spill half of the contents on way to the glass and 2 drinks being left on the bar and a waitress saying 'there are your drinks' as the waiter left. We ordered 'catch of the day' and belly pork. The trout was a single fillet that had been kept warm for too long and was 'old looking'. It was dry and tasteless. The belly pork was a lump of meat, no fat on it so I'm not sure it was belly pork at all! Served with the smallest portion of rather nice cabbage, and a dribble of apple sauce. Again the main part of the diner was tasteless. We set aside our plates and the waitress approached asking if we had finished and when we said the meals were very unpleasant simply stated 'I'll take them off the bill', no attempt to discover the issue, offer alternative, speak to the manager, tell the chef, apologise properly or generally give any impression that she could 'give one'. We paid the drinks bill and left. Nobody asked about our meal, nobody apologised, in fact I'm not sure anyone noticed we had actually been there or had left! I dont know what McDonald hotels think about this clueless hotel/restaurant but, as a customer it seemed totally bereft of direction, standards, management or caring about customer experiences. There are plenty of better alternatives than this, but if you cant find one then go on a diet.

The food was very tasty so this is not a criticism on the food. However portions were small for the prices. We paid £10 for 4 strawberries and a bit of puring cream with 2 small biscuits. There was a wedding on next door so it was busy and there was noise from the band playing but we didn't mind that too much. There was only 1 staff on the bar and the Guinness was warm this did not go down well with my husband. There was only 1 staff on the restaurant doing what seemed to be everything which mean there was a long wait between ordering and courses. We also had breakfast which was also very busy and only 2 staff on serving. There were lots of tables avaliable but no one to prepare them for the next course.

Afternoon tea bought as a present. We decided to go on a Friday as there would probably be a better atmosphere. Unfortunately we were the only people there…. Not the hotels fault. The afternoon tea was overpriced for what was served. Scones not very good. Tiny cakes cut in half. Finger sandwiches disappointing. The place was deathly quiet and we could not wait to leave. The gentleman who served us was very nice and tried to make the best of a very poor job. I think Craxton Wood should look at competitors. Definitely would not go again or recommend it.
