   Our experience was great, until it came time to pay our bill. We used a debit card to pay, because it is illegal to charge extra for use of a debit card (as opposed to a credit card) in New Jersey. However, Highlawn charged this illegal service charge anyway. The manager explained that charge cards and debit cards are treated the same at Highlawn. 'Your establishment needs to cease this illegal practice.

   Such a great night. The ambiance, food, service all were top shelf. A great place to relax, enjoy and celebrate.

   Maybe it was an “off” night. The food was ok - not the level of good we’ve had previously when we were there. The service was really not up to par. Over poring wine, curt responses, unfamiliarity with the origin of the dishes. Then the bill - they were not able to split it. Also they added a 20% gratuity (3pp in our party) and still had the line for write in tip on the receipt The view is amazing as always but now we need to find another high end standard.

    The Highlawn is a beautiful restaurant with a spectacular view. I haven't been since the renovation and it looks wonderful, the staff is accommodating, and I would give it another try for a regular dinner. The Mother's Day brunch at $85/pp was overpriced at best. While there was a huge assortment of food, you cannot get quality for that price as the food sits steaming away with sterno underneath it, or cold bacon sitting in grease, or overdressed salads wilting away. The sushi was replenished repeatedly and was good quality, and while many things were tasty, I just thought that for that price, they could have at least included a glass of prosecco for the moms, a soft drink, something. $380 for brunch for 3 people, where there were only two drinks and one iced tea seems like an awful lot, and I truly have no problem paying for good food and a good setting. In addition, there was a keyboard set up in the main dining space. There's a baby grand piano in the foyer which would have been much more appropriate for the occasion. I am a musician by trade, and it's hard to avoid the inherent "cheesiness" of the sound of just an electric keyboard. The pianist was banging away playing an array of pop tunes that also seemed strangely inappropriate for a Mother's Day brunch. We actually had to ask for him to turn down as it was distracting and interfered with conversation, rather than enhancing the scene, as music is supposed to do.
