About this restaurant

  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for groups
The Hop Vine formerly the ‘Royal Hotel’ was built in 1874 and was the main stopping off point for goods being transported to and from the old Turnpike road the A59. The Royal as it was known has served the community and travellers alike. To the rear of the building in our historic Cobbled Garden you will find our own brewery housed in the stables which were used for the horses and stage coaches as they passed through the village. From Ales to YPA’s, to Blonde beers we are a small producer using primary English hops brewing exclusively in house for The Hop Vine and our sister pub the Legh Arms.

Our countryside sister the Legh Arms is our latest addition to the family and is situated in the pretty hamlet of Mere Brow. Here we serve our trademark delicious home produced quality food and excellent home brewed ales. Your hosts Mike & Julie and their superb team bring a wealth of experience in the trade and have sourced the best in the local area to tempt you.

Lovely atmosphere and good home cooked food. Our shared starter wasn’t the best - skewered chicken with nacho crumb and peri peri mayonnaise. Think it had been cooked a few hours before it was served, definitely over cooked. Rest of meal was good as usual, nice rage of beers and wines available. Always lots of staff on duty making the whole dining experience enjoyable. Essential to book.

Very traditional style pub restaurant. The decor is a bit tired. Doesn't seem to have changed in the 10 years since I was last here. Service is excellent. Very attentive and friendly. Staff have been trained well and know how to do their job. Food is excellent with a traditional but extensive menu. Can't fault the quality or quantity of the food. Everything was served in a timely manor and was well presented. Good selection of hand pumped beers as well as the usual keg beers and lagers. Recommended. We will go again.

Being gluten free, I had a wonderful starter and main course. My husband’s starter of ribs was fantastic and he wished he had had it as a main.
