The Ivy restaurant has been a firm fixture on London’s dining and social scene since 1917. The restaurant and private room upstairs are the epitome of real glamour. A shimmering central dining bar in the restaurant draws admiring attention, and the signature harlequin stained-glass windows, oak panelling and striking contemporary art collection ensure the longevity of this very British of dining institutions. Executive Chef Gary Lee creates balanced seasonal menus, featuring Ivy classics, but accounting for today’s tastes, incorporating more Asian dishes, salads and vegetables, and the advent of a “sea and shells” section. Director Fernando Peire leads a strong and experienced team to deliver the unfaltering service for which The Ivy has become well known over the years. The Ivy welcomes customers without reservations at the central dining bar, where the A La Carte and Set menus are both served.

    A perfect London New Year’s Eve experience. The drinks and the food were excellent. The ambience was outstanding. Our waiter was extremely helpful. Really can’t say enough!

    Terrible experience from the moment we walked in the door. Said our name, time and counter seating preference from our reservation we’d made months earlier. Woman at hostess stand couldn’t find our reservation. I provided a printout of our confirmation email with our name and confirmation # - still nothing. Three women blankly starring at a computer monitor. After 10 minutes of standing there - she then noticed the email address and said the reservation was under that name (even though the reservation was NOT under that name according to our email confirming) - we then had to wait another 15 minutes before being seated. People that came in after us were seated ahead of us. Last night was New Year’s Eve and obvs a very busy night - as frustrating as the check in process was what was more strange was that there was NOTHING in any of these people’s greeting of us/checking in that was at all conciliatory about the situation. Just a “so sorry about that, apologies about the wait” would have gone a long way towards diffusing the situation. (We were totally polite) This is not at all in line with the kind of service I expect from The Ivy on West Street.

    Booked the main restaurant and ended up in the room above where only a couple of tables were occupied. No atmosphere whatsoever and extremely annoying as I had booked the main restaurant.

    Although it said smart casual — it was not. Guests dressed very casually. The food selection was limited and no salad options were available except one with duck. I asked for no sweet potato in my order but was told it was premade. They also ran out of a dessert item by 7 pm. And it was a slice of pie. When I asked for more bread they agreed but never came back with it. A very underwhelming experience. Note: the waiter did his best under the circumstances.

    We couldn’t have asked for anything more - to have our first experience here on Christmas Eve really was wonderful - all of the team working were fantastic and they made our visit truly amazing and the food was unreal - we had caviar as a pre-starter to share, followed by the cheese soufflé and then the out of this world like butter melting in your mouth beef wellington
