I came to this very popular place with all my family. Reservation helped. They recommended the east coast oysters and mahi mahi ceviche and those were our favorites! The fisherman's stew was also great, and thought it unique since it came with separate soup. The Bloody Mary was nice with the food. I enjoyed the meal sooo much. Thanks a lot!!!

I’m generally pretty lenient, but when someone tries to poison you, that drops the star ratings down pretty low. Ambience is lovely — charming place. That’s where the positives end. Ordered the fisherman stew and the catch of the day. Also ordered the tuna Crudo. Pretty straightforward. After half an hour the catch of the day comes out it’s billed as a white fish lightly coated in lemon. It’s in a cassoulet dish soaked in peppers, onions and garlic, and serve with toast. Overcooked but edible. Nothing else is brought out. After 45 minutes, we asked what happened to the Crudo, she goes back comes back 10 minutes later and says that the tuna looked really bad but they had Toro that looked good so she would bring that. 15 minutes later after my companion had finished his meal. They brought the Toro, but it smelled off and was crunchy, which is not something Toro is supposed to be. I actually ate a couple pieces, but my companion said this is gross and we sent it back. Then 10 minutes later my meal came. The fisherman’s stew is billed as a stew with various seafood, simmered in a lobster broth with coconut and ginger. What came out was a bowl of some seafood with raw peppers and sprouts for some reason. Next to it was a bowl of lightly flavored dish water and the waitress said you could either dip your seafood in it or pour it over the bowl. When we discussed the tuna issue with a different manager we were told that that specific tuna had already been sent back once tonight because it smelled so bad to them,; but I guess it was OK to try to serve it again. Now I am home, not feeling great and I’ll spare the details of what’s happening right now, but it’s an irresponsible place with bad food handling and poor service and great ambience. They never apologized for the weird differences in food timing, and we had to actually request for them to remove the bad fish from our bill, and the server could’ve cared less. Will not be returning.

The food was outstanding! Our waitress was very friendly and efficient. The decorations were super cute for Christmas as the whole restaurant was decorated beautifully

Diego, at the raw bar, is amazing! Friendly, attentive, informative... spectacular service! He explained the different oysters that they have, and made me actually like oysters. They make and sell their own hot sauce, which isn't too spicy, it has the right kick, but is so full of flavor, I could drink the entire bottle. Their lobster roll is fenomenal. Their drinks were also good.

Service ok. Very long wait time for the food. Waited over an hour for just the appetizers.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. The only nice employee was the host. The waiters were miserable, service was awful and the wait times for food were outrageously long. If I could give this zero stars I would. Would not recommend to anyone.

We LOVED dining here! The food was absolutely delicious! We got the Puerto Rican oysters which I think are a must try - they are so good! We also got the mahi mahi ceviche and Oh my gosh sooooo good!!!! And in my opinion, it was a very healthy portion! I just barely finished all of it! I really wish I had more room to try more! The staff is SO excellent too! The host was so welcoming and energetic and really meshes with the ambiance! Our waitress - sorry I forgot her name, but she was kind of new - was so amazing!! And if the owner is in, definitely take a chance to talk to him! He is so proud of his establishment and you can really tell! We are planning to come back after our cruise! Don’t skip this shack while you are in PR, you will regret it!

We tried The Oyster Shack for dinner during a recent stay in San Juan, PR. Unfortunately, it did not meet the hype. First, the food…. The oyster selection was disappointing… we had the Bluepoints, served room temperature, no hot sauce, just a quarter teaspoon of horseradish in a dollop of cocktail sauce. The oysters were also small, several not much bigger than a nickel, not shucked very well either. The seafood medley was good, malanga chips on the side. The handful of chips served ran out about 1/2 way through the dish, we ordered more, and were charged for more (maybe because we received a full order the second time)… bad form. We had the mani-mani hot plate next…. We tried to order several crudo plates (sashimi) only to be told they only had about three things on the menu left for the evening… It was about 6:45pm in the evening. The waiter said something about a generator issue in the kitchen, who knows. Perhaps true, since the oysters were served warm, and our bottle of sparkling wine was served slightly chilled and required an ice bath for an hour to be palatable. On the up side, the mojito was great, one of the best ever! Second, the service… halter skelter at best. From our observations, no real training provided. Multiple servers taking orders, delivering food, apparently no one person responsible for a specific table. Service was generally slow, not “island time” slow, just slow, and periods of 20-30 minutes without anyone stopping by our “seats.” We had “seats” at a counter because many of the tables in the dining room are so uneven and wobbly that it’s impossible to have a meal at them. It was interesting to watch the host continue to seat people at the same tables, and couple after couple would move themselves to other tables, often moving multiple times to find a stable table. The restaurant was generally in a state of poor upkeep. We observed all these things when the owner was present. He was there, but mostly uninvolved …
