   The food was lovely, particularly the mushroom risotto, but the service was what really made the difference. The manager was extremely attentive and took the time to have a bit of banter with us - it really made the difference!

   A very good experience. The ambiance and decor were tasteful, warm and friendly. The lay out of tables was was pleasantly spaced. The menu catered very satisfactorily for a variety of choice. The food was very good and the portions generous. The service was excellent. Importantly, background music could be adjusted to the customer's comfort level. We will return.

   A friend and I decided to try out Red Herring, and booked for lunch on a Friday. It was fairly busy, with just a few tables free. We were seated by the door, with a half height barrier separating us from people coming in. Our table was quite close to another table for two closer to the window and my friend had to get the other table to move so that she could get into her seat, so not much space. Other tables looked to have more space. I tried to order an alchohol free G&T, which they did not have, so sttled for a 0% Peroni. My friend tried the mocktail, which was OK, but not exceptional. We both ordered a main course, mine was scallops, prawns & rice in a saffron sauce, my friend chose mushroom risotto. Unfortunately I was brough a scallop starter instead of the main course dish, so it was taken away & my friend's risotto was also removed, so that we could eat together. When the correct food arrived we were very pleased with both dishes. We were then asked if we would like coffe etc, no mention was made of puddings, are there any? We had an espresso and Earl Grey tea to finish our meal. the staff are attentive, the ambience is fine, but not exceptional. There is quite a large menu, covering everything from breakfasts to pizzas, and meat eating to vegetarian dishes. Verdict: our two main courses were very good, next time we would hope for a better table, the staff are capable & do they do puds?

   Service was very good and it was comfortable. People coming in were careless about closing the door behind them and even though we were far from the door there was a huge draught. A stronger spring is needed for the door to self close. The food, although tasty, was pricey for quite small portions.

   Food not bad but for size of portions not worth the money! Staff were friendly but rushed off their feet. Won't be eating there again.

   Been before when it was Nick Nairns and before that also. The decor is very nice and the main area is comfortable and warm with log burning stoves which gives a great ambience. The staff were young and friendly and very chatty which was great. Lorna who served us was very nice and knew her stuff. The food was very good my only observation was that the Bruscheta was not the best , not toasted enough a bit soggy. The main meals were v good. Prices were reasonable.
