Since welcoming its first guests in 1773, The Red Lion Inn has earned a reputation for outstanding food and genuine country hospitality. Those traditions are continued today by Executive Chef Jon Sterrett, whose kitchen features contemporary cuisine that is rooted in the region's history and harvests. Emphasizing the use of fresh, local ingredients and a huge proponent of buying locally and sustaining the region, Chef Sterrett regularly updates the Inn's menus to reflect the bounty of each season. Guests choose from the elegant Main Dining Room and the cozy Widow Bingham's Tavern. The wine list offers 500 plus selections, and has received the Wine Spectator best of Award of Excellence for ten consecutive years; Sommelier Tim Eustis helps pair wines with meals. If you would like to dine in the Tavern, please choose Bar when making your reservation.

Everything was excellent especially the food and the waiter's attention. But they were short staffed for the crowd. So that made the service slow. But the water was very accommodating and did his best to compensate.

We ate in the bar area which has the same menu as the dining room for lunch. It was super busy but I loved the coziness of the bar. TJ e food was delicious and the service was great.

Food was just ok. While Turkey sandwich was plentiful and good tasting, something other than potato chips could be offered. My husband had the salmon. It was served over cauliflower puree. You had to lift the salmon to see the tiny portion of puree. On his plate was a handful of spinach. Just spinach. Like it was just thrown on the plate. No dressing, no cheese, no other salad toppings. I was very disappointed.

Food was absolutley delicious. Very long time between soups and dinner entrees. Waiter never came back for refills or really check on us.

Menu ootions were “more current” and less traditional New England hearty fare offered. All of the dishes were well executed and delicious. Wait staff was friendly and service was great. Front house welcome was less than enthusiastic and underwhelming. Surprising for the Red Lion Inn. Overall a great meal.

Very underwhelmed. Food came out way too quickly to be fresh. Fish and chips cooked in dirty oil. Way overpriced. $100 for lunch for 2?????

The Red Lion Inn is iconic. Quintessential New England and always a joy to visit. Our lunch today did not disappoint. All tasty and well presented. The portions are modest for the price but leaves room for dessert. Apple pie, warmed Camabert and chocolate mousse were not only beautiful to look at it but mouth watering delicious. The Service was excellent! A must go to, if you’ve never been. And if you have, go back!

We had exceptional service and the maitre d’ was very accommodating in getting us an earlier reservation than our original time. The bread selection and haddock croquette appetizers were delicious. Both The strip steak and duck were well succulent, although the cauliflower steak left a lot to be desired in terms of flavor, texture and accompaniments. Overall a good experience and we would certainly return.
