The Roebuck Inn is an historic coaching inn with rooms, in the heart of the Sussex countryside where the South Downs meet the woodlands of the Sussex Weald.
We have an extensive range of beers with an emphasis on Sussex Brewers, ably supported by the best small brewers from further afield, and a daily changing menu incorporating wonderful local ingredients, many supplied by our neighbours in the village.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
The Roebuck Inn is a charming country pub known for its "fab Sunday Roast" and delightful garden with a playground for kids. Guests appreciate the "excellent service" and generous portions, particularly the Sunday roast and fish dishes. While occasional menu shortages occur, the friendly atmosphere and rustic setting make it a favorite spot.

Can not fault the food, service, staff, atmosphere. My concern was that two burgers, one fish and chips, 1 Guinness, 1 cider and 1 lemonade came to £70

Lovely to meet the new chef and we enjoyed the half lobster meal.

Visited with family for Sunday lunch. Arriving at noon. Very disappointing. Husband ordered Ham egg and chips, after 10 minutes informed us that they had run out of ham. Surprising so early in the day and felt this should have been information given to the waitress when she took our orders, my daughter is vegetarian and chose her only option. The pastry was far from flaky, the filling slimy and the gravy glutinous. I chose lamb shank having established it was gluten free but my dinner arrived with Yorkshire pudding which she had said were not gf. Service was slow. The shank was average. Service was slow so we did not have time to try the desserts. Previous visits have been satisfactory but this was disappointing. The children enjoyed the playground whilst waiting for the food to be served.

Considerably disappointed that I had a table booked for two people and to be told by a member of staff that they didn’t have my booking, sadly had to go somewhere else.

Such a shame!! No Bombay Sapphire gin, no steaks, no ham - so very little choices left to eat for dinner. the waitress was amazing though!! I appreciate it was November 1st and they were celebrating Halloween but on a Friday at 6.15 to run out of every steak i think is poor management on their part. The remaining menu was so small. The toilets were not very clean either. Not sure if we would return as had been in August and didnt have a great experience then but decided to give it another go!

We eat here quite often as we haven’t found any dish that we haven’t enjoyed immensely, and we particularly like the Sunday lunch. Lovely country pub with friendly staff and customers. If it’s warm, the outside area is very pleasant, and if it’s rainy or a bit colder, sit inside in the cosy and rustic environment. Thank you, Roebuck Inn!

The Sunday roast is immense. I’d say that the cauliflower cheese side is far too big (a meal in itself) but that’s the only criticism.
