Welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Dogs welcome. Food always good and tasty. All local produce. Selection of wines , gins and cask beers. Outside seating when weather permits. Problem with smokey wood burning fire did not detract from an enjoyable experience.

Disappointed with the food and the menu. The menu was unimaginative. One starter was a scampi and squid dish which was very disappointing and expensive for what it was. Lovely pub atmosphere but won’t be rushing back.

We arrived after booking to be put on a table next to a door that said “staff only” with a constant gust of wind blowing on us. We asked the door to be closed, we were told it couldn’t be closed and we would be moved. There were no tables to move to so the door was closed after all.. Service charge at 10% and not mentioned when paying. Drinks were left on the bar for 10 minutes on a tray and plates not cleared well after meal had finished. Only 2 staff for a busy bar area full of people eating lunch who clearly can’t serve the food and drinks yet the business charges 10% service charge whilst people are left with poor service and drinks sitting on the bar. After we’d paid we said “thank you” audibly more than once on the way out and we were ignored. Food was tasty and lovely as always but the service, sitting people next to a draft from outside, and leaving drinks sat on the bar and charging extra for the privilege isn’t acceptable or good for business.

Have had meals at the Rose & Crown for about sixty years with generally good food and service. This Sunday lunch (29/09/24) was terrible: the meat in particular was over-cooked, dry and broadly tasteless. It seemed as though it had been sitting in the kitchen for some time. The vegetables were hardly inspiring. The desserts by contrast were good. The service was pleasant, but it took over ten minutes to get a bill. Not likely to visit again and would not recommend to anyone else.

Superb Sunday roast. Great value too. Lovely ambience in a delightful spacious wood panelled old room. Service excellent - attentive not fussy.

Rose & Crown is one of our very favourite places to travel to for its high quality food. Unfortunately this time around, the high quality was not there. The Meat & Cheese platter had cheap danish salami, rather than the usual quality Milano and at £22 a board for 1 is overpriced. I chose a vegetarian dish for a change, which was good but the pit of salad didn’t work with a hot dish that came with gravy. Again at £19, too expensive. Will stick with dining for Sunday lunches which are always top notch. Also feel there are too many dogs allowed in the pub, while people are dining. Allergies need further consideration for diners.

The variation we had on the burger theme this time round was very good indeed. Extra delicious, if that were possible. The portions are very good, neither too much nor too little. The surface is efficient, polite, and cheerful.
