   We both ordered the gammon steak and it was delicious, very well cooked and we enjoyed every bite. I ordered the cherry sundae and my wife ordered the sticky toffee pudding both were delicious. Well recommended.

   Always enjoyed the food, but the change of management but retained men seems to have led to even better quality and taste of dishes. Table service a definite improvement. The wine I wanted wasn't available, but I was offered an alternative with a good discount. I very much appreciate this gesture. The wine wasn't quite as good but it was ok. We had a shared southern fried chicken starter and a mixed grill each. The steak was cooked beautifully, and the sausage was delicious.

   The food was a big disappointment. The prawn starter was very bland, just a couple of bitter baby gem leaves and some prawns in sauce on a plate I had expected maybe some cucumber or something. Flavourless meat. I neither Hubby or I could eat the chips and peas as they were quite hard. I did tell the waitress that we were disappointed in what was meant to be a birthday meal and just got a “sorry about that”. She could clearly see we’d hardly touched our food. Below average pub food rather than a restaurant experience I’m afraid. We were hungry but didn’t want to risk having to pay for a below average pudding too.

   Although the service was generally good there was a tendency to be forgotten and it wasn’t just us. As a server passed by “I’ll be with you in a moment” never happened even had to go get our own menus and order at the bar, the focus appeared to be on the larger tables. However the food was hot and good to eat. Nothing exceptional but generally good. The ambiance was much better than in previous visits

   Unfortunately, underfoot was icy when we visited and nowhere outside had been gritted, it was like an ice rink trying to get in and two of our group were stroke survivors. Once inside, there was no heating on! In January! There is a log fire which was not lit. When we asked, we were told they had run out of logs by one staff member, while another said the chimney sweep was due today. But when we left it was lit! The waitress kindly put us in a conservatory where fan heaters were working, otherwise we would have left. The food was nice, and good value. A shame the rest spoilt our visit.

   Hi Julie, We apologize for not having gritted the paths before your visit. We attempted to do so, but unfortunately, we were unable to secure any materials. We understand this is not acceptable, and we will be better prepared in the future. Regarding the heating, we were in the process of addressing the issue caused by frozen pipes due to the snow. This situation was beyond our control, and as someone who often feels cold, I completely understand your frustration. I acknowledge that the fire was not lit during part of your visit. There were delays with the chimney sweep, which we could not avoid. We usually aim to have this completed before the pub opens, but this time it could not be helped. I can assure you our heating is now fixed and should you visit again will be nice and warm. Amy

   Visited today and was massively disappointed with the Beef roast dinner. The beef was overcooked and tough, the roast potatoes were undercooked/rushed, not crispy at all and rock hard in the middle. The mixed vegetables were average however the creamed leak was very good. The Yorkshire pudding was clearly frozen and really poor quality. And to top it off the gravy was like water and had to ask for extra just to be able to moisten up the beef or I could have possibly choked on it. We also ordered cauliflower cheese as a side and that was really good.

   Decided to try The Ship as it has recently reopened in the village. My mum and I were pleasantly surprised by the standard and quality of the food compared to the price. We booked a table for 6pm on the Friday between Christmas & New Year. Understandably it was relatively quiet with only another couple of tables occupied but it had a good atmosphere and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. What a great eating place in a small village. As a family we wish them every success and we will definitely be back.
