No frills, no fuss or tiny portions - just awesome food cooked to perfection. Housed in a 17th century converted stable barn with exposed beams, inviting log burner and secluded courtyard garden adorned with festoon lighting, The Stables exudes personality and warmth as well as offering a delicious all-day dining menu fit for any foodie. Our menu celebrates everything British & features classic dishes such as locally sourced Charcuterie, seared Scottish Scallops, homemade breads, British Beef Burgers & our signature Sticky Toffee Pudding. Al Fresco Dining is also available in our secluded courtyard garden - large parasols and patio heaters will be provided outdoors in case of any inclement weather. We went to The Stables for Valentines Day. It was a 6 course set meal for £65 which on paper looked promising, but sadly in the flesh was very underwhelming and was certainly not worth the money. We had a table facing a wall (so not overly atmospheric), service was fine but unfortunately that was the only redeeming feature.

Food was excellent and the venue is perfect. Paul was very attentive and waited on us perfectly. All staff were friendly and helpful.

Overall we enjoyed our meal, nothing really wrong with it. But the menu and pricing made us expect something special and out of the ordinary. Sadly the cost did not equate to the experience we expected. As an example one of us opted for the burger, it was enjoyed (but perhaps not more than bought elsewhere for more like half the price), £21 for a burger really seems excessive. Staff were very good, although a steak was ordered and no steak knife was offered or given. A nice setting, with a lot of potential, but not quite hitting the spot, so can’t see us returning.

I wouldn't have left a review at all if not emailed specifically to leave one, I don't like to be negative when I know teams work so hard for a good outcome! We booked for the Hallowen spooky menu and dance, which was such a fun premise. The Team went above and beyond with the decorations, which was so fun to see. The staff were so lovely, especially the young girl who served our table and the gentleman with the bowtie. Both credits to the team! Sadly the food was not nice. We shared the mini camembert and the bread was black and had that bitter taste. Then I had the lamb shank for my main and it came with some celeriac mash which was delicious and six small wedges of carrot that maybe made up less than one whole carrot but they were delicious too. The lamb was tough and dry and didn't fall of the bone at all. Normally when I order or make a lamb shank, the meat is juice and falls of the bone. There was only a dribble of sauce on the plate so maybe a bit more would have disguised this issue a bit more but as it was, it was inedible. The waiter was so nice and wanted to know why I didn't eat it, I didn't want to say. So I was a bit hungry but never mind. My dad ordered a medium rare ribeye that was cold and also overcooked. I think the prices are a bit mad. Mine and my dad's meal were at the £30 mark and you can get a gorgeous meal for that!!!!! Not a dry bit of meat and a tiny bit of veg. Then when the bill came, we were charged for items we'd never had: and extra glass of wine, a beer that was never had at all, and an extra diet coke. This must have come to £20 odd. Luckily we noticed and they took it off Then when we went to leave we realised that the wall we'd been sat next to was covered in brick dust and there was literally an inch thick layer of orange brick dust on the skirting board and floor. It went all over my designer coat and bag. Let me end with a positive!!! The atmosphere, decor and staff are great! And the chips were amazing.

Both had the Cantley Burger, very nice but fries were bland - bring back the chunky chips.
