   Nice enough spot. My chicken burger was very tasty but the bun was soggy and the chilli jam somewhat overpowering. Served with very basic bits of lettuce and some onion. Premium price for an average meal. My wife’s fish was very good however. Service good. Food overpriced for what it was.

   I was shown immediately to my table on arrival and asked for my drink order while I viewed the menu. My food was served and it was clear it has been freshly cooked, hot and full of flavour. The waiting staff checked on me during my meal but weren’t overbearing. I was on a tight timescale but still had a very pleasant lunch.

    We're becoming regulars at Whittling House. Situated in the beautiful village of Alnmouth, the restaurant is the perfect retreat after an energetic walk or even just a browse around Alnwick. Warm service with a bit of personality is backed up by a great menu. Being coastal, seafood is well represented but there are also some great meat options including a venison pie that looked like it had a whole deer in there! Our last visit, I preferred the fish pie whilst Mrs Smith swam with the sea bream fillets; the latter bang full of flavour thanks to the generous chorizo accompaniment and pesto base. Lush! We went with starters and resisted desserts but plenty of options on both to tempt those with sweet and / or savoury toot With a great little bar to retire and recover from, it's a perfect getaway. Go on, make a night of it and stay at the hotel! We love it!!
