The Union Oyster House, located on the Freedom Trail, near Faneuil Hall, enjoys the unique distinction of being America's oldest restaurant. This Boston fixture, housed in a building dating back to Pre-Revolutionary days, started serving food in 1826 and has continued ever since with the stalls and oyster bar, where Daniel Webster was a constant customer, in their original positions.

The food was really good. We had fresh oysters, clam chowder, sea scallops, fried clams, and Boston creme pie. The server even brought us a serving of cornbread while we were waiting for the food to arrive. Outstanding all around. The booth was a little tight, but hey, its the oldest restaurant in the US, so maybe folks were smaller back then. :-)

The seafood was extremely fresh. The scallop and shrimp over pasta in the cream sauce was ok. If was lacking flavor. The lobster Mac my guest had was good. I enjoyed the cornbread and wine. Server was great!

Union Oyster House is an historical fixture, which would be a reason to go, not for the food. The clam chowder tasted like it was out of a can. Have enjoyed other AMAZING clam chowder in Boston. My husband and I also split the lobster ravioli. The pasta was tender, and the white sauce had a nice flavor, but there was no lobster, for $36. For $34, we enjoyed a huge portion of again, AMAZING lobster mac and cheese, mixed with 8oz of lobster in another establishment. Our $100 lunch with tip left us still a little hungry, but we can say we were there!

The clam chowder was fantastic! Our waitress was wonderful. The fish was cooked perfectly (we had broiled and fried) and it was delicious! Eclectic, cool, and historic atmosphere. Must try in Boston!

Cornbread and clam chowder were AMAZING! Our server Lenora was great, attentive and very friendly. Can't beat the ambiance of the oldest continuously running restaurant in the US. Exec Chef Rico puts out a great menu at great prices. Don't miss the oysters...so delicious!
