Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.

Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.

On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

  • Private party facilities
    Updown has several beautiful spaces in which to host your private event. We have a beautiful conservatory Private Dining Room overlooking the farmhouse lawn. It is perfect for groups of 4 to 14 for a seated meal, or up to 20 for a drinks party. The main restaurant can accommodate up to 50 sitting or 150 standing and is ideal for a larger party.

    As tempting as it is to save our pennies for a Christmas blow out, the freezing temperatures makes us want one thing: a treat. And in our minds, the only treat we want mid-Winter is to be cooked for, cared for and sent home a little bit happier than when we left the house. So, we're offering a £40 set menu every Thursday dinner, Friday dinner and Saturday lunch, every week 'til the end of January. We can always offer a vegan or vegetarian option if you let us know when you book.     Overall , it was a good meal. However it seemed a little confused in the decor / music and then menu. It gave Mexican/ Street vibes with a quintessentially higher end dining a la Cartè menu. The starter was very flavoursome but again lacked the finesse I would expect when paying £50pp - the pork main however was delicious and thr pulled pork inside the yorkshire was a great touch. I think additional colourful veg would be a fab addition & £6 for a side of a spoon full of leeks was a little steep. I had sorbet for pudding which was nice. Overall we had a nice experience but I wouldn't rush back for the price. The bill came to over £300 and the 12.5% service charge was said to be optional but appeared on the bill at the end. I think what you're paying for here is the nichè location and novelty decor. It was definitely an experience with good food but a little overpriced overall.

    My favourite restaurant in the area. I love the atmosphere particularly, and their Christmas tree is better than Trafalgar Square’s! We all had the winter set menu. Pork pate, beef and pheasant pie, and a delicious rice pudding crème brûlée! We’ll be back next year when there is an occasion to mark.

    Gorgeous time & meal at delightful Updown Farmhouse. On the cool side tho not cold (20 dec). Delicious food, highly flavoured, (I think I generally eat less salt). Beautiful Christmas decs & waitress Casey was really lovely . X

    Beautiful setting and food - service was excellent and I felt thoroughly looked after by wonderful front of house staff. Beautfuil food , great portion sizes (just right) and priced at a very reasonable point. Highly recommended.

    Wanted somwhere that felt different with really good food for a special occasion and Updown was perfect... even though we had a veggie, a vegan and a gluten free in our group. We had a really wonderful time

    fabulous evening, once again. The food was delicious (the sharing lamb chops were cooked to absolute perfection), friendly service and good accompanying wine. The restaurant was quite chilly though so dress appropriately! Thank you - we will definitely be back, and back, and back........

    Fantastic food, service and ambience. Beautiful tree outside and interior decoration fab. A lovely experience making it very special going into the orange room for a drink beforehand.
