Good Friday afternoon meal. It was quiet, although tables were booked for later that day. It’s great to see a different menu, really independent. Delicious and full of flavour. Super cod dish and also steak pie. Tasty dessert of crumble tart too. Really enjoyed it. First time, so would definitely come back. Good seating outside too, with some under the large canopy.

Lovely old historic pub. This is the second time we have been there for lunch and have always had a friendly welcome The food is fantastic and the beer is great. The staff are all helpful and friendly and the overall atmosphere of the pub is worth the trip there. I just wish it was closer to where I live ! Both times we have been there it has been busy so if you want lunch or dinner it’s probably worth going on line and booking a table which is easy to do and confirmed by the pub. Our dog was made welcome too, and had some free snacks. Great traditional British pub and well worth going too.

We had booked for 3.30 but arrived ant 2.30 and were seated straight away. I love the Sunday roasts here as they are good value and delicious. I was particularly looking forward to their wonderful nut roast but was really disappointed that they did not have any hence 4 stars. The service was excellent however and the pub itself is just delightful

Location was good and service the same. Food was OK but nothing special. My ham egg and chips was piled too high and the ham was quite ordinary and I would say disappointing

Disappointed, as we travelled nearly an hour for Mother’s Day and was really looking forward to it. My wife’s starter came out when most of us had finished ours. I asked twice for mint sauce and by the time it arrived we’d eaten half of our roasts. We had the first sitting at 12.30 so they wasn’t even busy at this point. Those of us who had lamb couldn’t eat it as it was too chewy so we had to leave it, my son who had the beef said it was lovely. Such a shame as the pub and the setting is really nice, which was the attraction in the first place.

Make a reservation for 5 people on Saturday 15 March 2025. All the food was great (everyone said they enjoyed what they had), and reasonable price; Guinness and steak pie, pizza burger, chicken supreme, cheese pizza and veggie pie (with mushrooms). Great choice of beers, and quiet restaurant area (there was music, but not so loud to prevent conversations. I'm sure in the summer it would be even better as there is plenty of outside seating, but it was a bit cold in mid-March for that. Great country pub.

We needed to sit in this part of the pub as one of our part had a large dog with them. The dog was made welcome with dog biscuits and bowls of water. I had the beef which was excellent. The staff were friendly.

Always our absolute go to in the area for a family get together and lunch - the food and service are impeccable, and also so accommodating for our little dog and toddler.
