White Horse Tavern provides consistently good food and service in a unique atmosphere. Two of us enjoyed the swordfish, but the scallop entree was even tastier. The colonial atmosphere adds to the charm and service is excellent.

We were half hour early from our reservation time but we were admitted without fuss. Our wait staff was Jenessa and she was polite, amiable, and knowledgeable. We were seated by a drafty window but I pulled the curtain together to stop the draft. There was a fireplace at every section in the restaurant. In fact, four in all. The fireplace was opposite from our table. We had Scotch duck egg for appetizer, a lobster bisque for me, French onion soup for my spouse, beef Wellington for him, confit duck legs for me and bread pudding as shared dessert with a scoop of salted caramel sorbet. The food was phenomenal. We will return when we return to Newport next Christmas. Thank you for our experience.

We had a wonderful family celebration of the Winter Solstice at the oldest restaurant in the country! The tavern looks as it probably did two hundred years ago! The food was outstanding!

Great gem in Newport . This old historic building has charm and ambiance. The food was excellent and there was a nice wine list. Staff is attentive. Each room has a fireplace that is roaring and someone keeps adding logs to it. The warmth was splendid during the frigid weather this last week. The restaurant was also nicely done yo for Christmas. Highly recommended.

Our party was greeted at the door and promptly seated. Definitely need a reservation here. The layout had a number of floors with small dining rooms on each. The ambiance was cozy - roaring fires, natural holiday decorations, soft lighting. The noise level was moderate - conversations happened easily at normal talking volume. The wine list was extensive, while the beer offerings were lackluster. The menu focuses on New England cuisine with many heavy, warming dishes. We visited during December, so it’s possible they have a different seasonal menu for the warmer months. Our server was attentive, but not annoying.
