We are from Atlanta and decided to go to Chattanooga for Thanksgiving. We were familiar with the Edwin Hotel and had experienced it as an upscale hotel with a great restaurant, wonderful lobby and fine art work. We were excited to book Thanksgiving dinner reservations at their Whitebird restaurant two weeks in advance. We were looking forward to an upscale Thanksgiving dinner at the lovely hotel. Prices were fixed at $84.00 per person. Not a problem! When we arrived, there was a bit of a wait as it seemed that the restaurant was understaffed. Understanding it was Thanksgiving, this was not an issue. This has nothing to do with the staff. The waitress was excellent and very accommodating. The issue was the food vs the value of what we paid and expected. While the food had good flavor, the entire setup was as if we were at a Golden Corral buffet. We opted for the prime rib. I have been to many carving stations in my life, but this prime rib was sliced so thin it was like it was roast beef deli sandwich meat from Publix. It was a see through sliver that you could pass light through. We had the option of (4) sides each and we received (6). Not a big deal. The chocolate pecan pie was straight out of a box. I would have thought that for $277.00 we would have had a wonderful experience. We were very disappointed, as we had looked so forward to this dinner. On the way back to our hotel, we passed Rodizio Grill, a Brazilian steak house, that we did not realize was open. For the amount we spent at Whitebird, we could have had unlimited meats at Rodizio. Whitebird, do better.

I love the white bird, unfortunately the Thanksgiving meal was cold and the macaroni cheese was the only thing that tasted good. We had a lovely server and booth and as I said, typically, I love the restaurant. The regular menu is fantastic and I don’t want to discourage anyone Was a very unfortunate situation for our Thanksgiving. We were very much looking forward to it, but just being honest the food was cold. For example, the mashed potato was hard as it should’ve been creamy and delicious, but it was really , Turkey so dry…etc and then they ran out of one of the two desserts so I would say feel comfortable eating here anytime except perhaps on holidays, it might’ve been too many people, but we were extremely disappointed.

Food and presentation were good, service was not that great…certainly not worthy of a 22% tip (bill for four without alcohol was $458.)

This was our first time dining here and everything was five star. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like VIP's. The manager/hostess was very gracious and accommodating and gave us a great table. Our server was excellent and food was outstanding in both its preparation and presentation. They were happy to accommodate our dietary issues -- being pescatarian it is sometimes difficult to make substitutions at many establishments but they said they could do whatever worked for us. We started with salad and the crab cake appetizer with cous cous, both were superb. For entrees, we both had the scallops and they were served with an interesting bean side dish and both were cooked to perfection. My husband had the old fashion bourbon cocktail which he said was one of the best he's ever had in a restaurant. I opted for Chardonnay -- they offer wine in two glass sizes, which was a great option. We skipped dessert only because we were too full, but will definitely check it out on our next trip. Overall, a truly amazing dining experience.

The food was delicious once it arrived. We ordered cocktails and one appetizer and our dinner all at the same time. The cocktails arrived within five minutes but the appetizer didn’t arrive until about 20 minutes later. After an hour and a half we asked about our salads and they were delivered immediately. Not sure why they took so long or how much longer we would have waited for them if we hadn’t asked. The food did arrive within a few minutes of our salad plates being cleared but an hour and a half before the dinner service really started after ordering is too long. It did seem that our waiter was also the bartender but the restaurant wasn’t that busy and there were other servers available to help him.

We had hoped to enjoy the lovely October weather and sit outside for dinner. Lighting was too bright, tables were bare and seats terribly uncomfortable. Better suited for a lunch outing. Indoor ambience was just right although a bit loud. Service was friendly but very slow considering the restaurant was not very busy. Restaurant did not appear to be understaffed - just not very well organized. Waiter thanked us several times for our patience - not a good sign. Food was good but, given reviews and recommendations, we expected better. Perhaps it was an "off" night. We'll give it another try next time we're in town.

We had Sunday brunch with a reservation at 1. We were seated right away, it wasn't busy. We had biscuits as an appetizer and they were great. I got a bloody mary and it came without the caper berry from the menu. The main taste was salt and was very weak. The lime was brown. My wife had the scrambler. It was a mushy brown glob of indistinguishable ingredients. I had the heirloom tomato tartine. The tomatoes were cheap garnish cherry tomatoes. It only had a trace of ricotta with very thick bread. It was horrible. Our waitress disappeared so I asked the seater for salt for my underseasoned tartine. I'm glad went for brunch instead of dinner for our anniversary. I will not be going back.
