Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Zama Restaurant & Bar offers a vibrant atmosphere perfect for celebrations with "wonderful vibes" and "great food." The sushi is highly praised, and the Happy Hour menu impresses with "amazing" options. While the lively music enhances the club-like ambiance, some find it too loud. Service experiences vary, but the creative cocktails and stylish decor stand out.

I proposed to my girlfriend last night at ZAMA. I have no words to describe how amazing the ZAMA staff was. They took such good care of us, especially Nicolas the Manager, allowing us to play a love song for the proposal, and bringing out the entire staff with sparklers. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was a lively happy Vibe. So appreciative of the other diners at ZAMA who fully embraced our moment and made it memorable. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Great food, great service, beautiful decorations. The music was a little loud and it was difficult to hear other people at the table (it was a Saturday night, maybe other nights is not as loud).

We showed up at 5:15pm and our server immediately looked rushed. We ordered our food and drinks 2hrs later and after checking our check folder 2-3xs told us we had to leave bc each table had a time max. I then ordered a lava cake bc I figured she may be upset it had been 30 min since ordering a drink or menu item & maybe needed the $ to allow us to continue to stay? - she looked upset & sent her manager over. He was nice but in short words asked us to leave. He comped drinks for us, which was nice, but it felt very uncomfortable to be kicked out. I would not recommend this spot simply for the lack of customer service. The gal was very rude.

Restaurant was obviously very busy & we appreciated the server trying to get us our meals quickly with a very large party seated at same time as us but to receive a our apps and entrees was not the best experience neither was the rubbery filet mignon or $41 for 3 small scallops, perhaps a better spot for the nightlife then food

It was our first time at Zama and was attracted to this place because of the Instagram photos. The place was cute and definitely Instagram worthy. FOOD: 2 stars out of 5 stars We ordered two dinner entrees. 1. scallops with risotto: The scallops were not cooked well. They were tough and chewy. The risotto was borderline cold to lukewarm warm. The portion was small for the price. 2. braised short ribs: The braised short ribs was a 3 out of 5 mainly because of portion size. The flavors were mediocre. I’ve had better braised short ribs for a fraction of the price. Happy hour: 4 stars out of 5 stars Their happy hour menu was from 5-7pm, which we appreciate given their house wines were decent. The apps were also decent. We loved their house roll, which we ended up ordering a second roll because of how delicious it was. Another must have is their truffle fries! I love truffle fries and theirs is by far my favorite truffle fries yet! Bar: 3.5 stars out of 5 stars They didn’t have a holiday cocktail menu so we ended up ordering an espresso martini. We tried their version from the menu, which was a premade/batched mix, and we did not like it! It tasted bitter! The bartender Ramses was great and made his special espresso martini w/ tequila. Service was a 3 out of 5. We were there on a Sunday evening. It was slow. The server Fabio was friendly and accommodating. He was the only server that night, which may have delayed the service but he did his best. Overall 3 out of 5. This place has potential. However, I will not be coming back.

Not the best sushi place in San Diego, restaurant is more for the ambience and experience. Loved the vibe but for the price I expected better quality sushi, personally.
