Zio Peppe is where tradition meets innovation, serious collides with playful, and gourmet converges with casual. Zio Peppe means “Uncle Joe’ in Italian, and just like a beloved “funcle” – a fun uncle, Zio Peppe will make sure all are welcome, and everybody is having a good time.

Zio Peppe is a collaboration between Chef Devon Sanner and Chef Mat Cable. Our menu is anchored in Italian-American classics of pizza and pasta, but draws heavy influence from the foods and flavor profiles of Tucson and the Sonoran region.

Sanner joins forces with Cable after having cooked under Tucson culinary legend Janos Wilder for the past 15 years, serving as chef at Janos, JBAR, Downtown + Cocktails, and The Carriage House.

Zio Peppe, which means “Uncle Joe” in Italian, is in part a tribute to Cable’s uncle, Joe Sottosanti, who opened Tucson’s first Sicilian pizza place, Tesseo’s Pizzeria, nearly 50 years ago.

This was a special night for the restaurant as it was a Valentines night dinner. The food was superb. Tables were spaced a bit too close for comfort,i.e. bumping into fellow diners when trying to get to your table or when leaving. Placed drink order and requested water, of which i had to ask about after we had been eating for a bit. Both water and drinks arrived shortly thereafter. Overall, the food more than made up for any of the negatives. Would do again.

We celebrated an early Valentine’s Day at Zio Peppe. Amazing dinner and the staff so very helpful. We will be back!

Food is very well made and appealing. The salmon on polenta was very attractive and so delicious. Innovative dishes with interesting spice profiles. A joy to enjoy for a nice meal out.

The restaurant was very busy which was expected during the gem show, but we were seated immediately at our reserved table and greeted by a wonderful waitress who was pleasant and took great care of us. The food was delicious, the cocktails and wine selections excellent and our waitress was wonderful. Can’t wait to go back and try some of their other dishes.

Food was fabulous-we had a salad plus risotto and the fig pizza and each was 5 star!!! The ambiance was not good. We asked for outdoor and it was long the parking lot with cars constantly coming and going only a couple feet from us. The exhaust was awful. The indoor ambiance was also not great-crowded, noisy, fussy children. We will go back for the food however

One of the best pizza crust I’ve ever had! And the sauce on a simple margarita pizza was amazing. We’ll definitely be back.
