John Ls’ Wine Cellar is not only well stocked with vintages to complement any meal in the Ranch House Restaurant and Saloon, it’s also an intimate and elegant private dining room with a bit of history built right in. In the room, the beautiful cherry wine racks and beams were crafted from 150-year-old cherry trees harvested on the owner’s family land in Adirondack Park in New York. Known hereabouts as John Ls’ Wine Cellar, it’s named in memory of two family members. To get to the wine cellar dining room, you have to pass through the Barrel, a hand-crafted wine uncorking room (for up to 16 people), where you can socialize before your dinner in the Cellar.

We dined at this restaurant two times during our stay at the ranch. Both times, the food was delicious. However, our second meal here our waiter provided horrible service that made the meal not very enjoyable. When we ordered our meals, we asked for bread (he did not offer) and it never came - we ultimately had to ask a manager for bread and did not receive it until we had finished eating our entrees. Our waiter did not come to check on us until we’d finished our entrees, at which point we asked for butter for the bread, and he never brought it. When he brought us our check, there were two drinks on the bill that we hadn’t ordered. When we asked for this to be corrected, he initially apologized then returned to the table a few minutes later to ask us if we were sure that we hadn’t ordered drinks at the bar prior to dinner, because he didn’t believe that he had made a mistake. It took him a long time to get this corrected and then ultimately he blamed it on another staff member. At the end of our first meal at the restaurant, we received chocolate truffles (that were delicious!) but our waiter at the second meal didn’t bring them, despite us seeing the tables around us who had different waiters receiving the truffles. Overall, our first experience was very positive but our second experience had horrendous service and was extremely disappointing.

Had an amazing experience at Ranch House! Food was incredible! Especially the honey nut squash soup, the elk pot pie, and the lamb shank! Our server, Skee, was very good, too! Can’t wait to go back!

Always a great meal at The Ranchouse. Server was young and inexperienced, this visit, but was friendly and worked to provide a good experience.

Great atmosphere. Food quality and service doesn’t match menu pricing.

Service and ambiance fabulous. The halibut was dry and lacked distinction. The meats were excellent, as were the apple fritters and martini. The dinner rolls were a bit dry. We let our server know about the fish and she graciously offered more sauce. It was odd that you charge extra for meat sauces. The grilled Caesar lacked taste - perhaps needs more salt? The mashed potatoes and spinach were very nice but not stand outs. The presence of the manager was noted. We were impressed that when we asked what kind of vodka was in the martini, the water server had the sommelier come over and he gave a fulsome answer, including the logic behind the choice of the house vodka. We have been coming since 1968 and will continue! The Urbans
