  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Lively
  • Great for brunch
Neighborly meets sophisticated at Red Owl, a modern tavern in the heart of Old City, just across from the Liberty Bell. Among soaring windows and cozy tables, the kitchen serves up smart, stylish takes on American staples (a cheesesteak never tasted as good as ours, made with premium shaved rib-eye). When paired with craft beers and classic cocktails, it’s a clever balance of fancy and familiar, with a dash of Philly flair.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Food was good. The place was busy which meant the server was spread pretty thin. It was nice that the managers were out greeting the guests.

Loudest restaurant ever. Food was sub par. We’ve been before a year or two ago and had a much better experience. Not sure if they changed chefs or something. Brussel sprouts were way over seasoned. I ordered gnocchi and got a random pasta instead. The octopus was overcooked. The person clearing the table was very pushy and aggressive. And it was expensive for what we ended up with.

We were there for the Thanksgiving dinner buffet. There was not enough clear info/direction. The main dinner foods were in the hallway, but the bread table was in the dining room far from the buffet line and not clearly visible to all. When people did discover the bread table, there weren’t any plates to bring it back to your table. The food was tasty but everything was too salty which made it hard to eat.

Excellent service, great food and atmosphere. Our server was super attentive and kind. We had a nut allergy in the group and he had been made aware through our reservation and double checked that items on the menu were safe. It was a wonderful surprise that the chocolate cake was safe - the frosting was delicious. We’ll definitely be back. Easy parking nearby in the lot on fourth st.

I’ve never given a negative restaurant review before but here we go. Our party of six was in town to watch my son compete in the Philly Marathon. We came to the restaurant the night before the race so we could celebrate together and get our runner a good dinner before the race. We were seated upstairs and it was a terrible experience. We arrived at 6:30, with a reservation and were seated promptly. Once seated the manager came by and gave a water. The waitress came by about 10 minutes later to take our order - so far so good. Then, we waited an hour to get our meal. When the food came my son’s meal was missing. We were able to flag down the manager who apologized, asked what the missing meal was, and promised to get it as soon as possible. By this time my son was getting anxious to get back to his room to start his pre-race preparations. About 5 minutes later the missing meal was delivered, having been found sitting in the kitchen somewhere, not a fresh meal. It was lukewarm. My son was forced to shovel it in so he could get back to his room. On top of the poor service, the food was all mediocre at best, cold and soggy from sitting before delivery. It was dark at our table (so dark we needed our phone lights to see the menus) and it was extremely noisy. Overall the experience was unpleasant and we will never return to this restaurant even though it was conveniently located at our hotel.

Amazing food and staff. I had the half chicken and I've never had a better classic chicken dish then this. It was complimented perfectly with the rice and spice.

This is a terrific casual tavern right in the middle of many historical attractions. The service was absolutely fabulous, so very friendly! The food was delicious, very creative and very flavorful. We went for dinner as a couple after a day of sightseeing and it was very welcoming. Highly recommended!
