Welcome to Nippon, the heartbeat of authentic Japanese cuisine in New York City since 1963. Nestled on 52nd Street between Lexington and 3rd Avenue, we invite you to indulge in a culinary journey through traditional Edo-mae (Tokyo) style dishes.

Signature Dish: Experience our iconic Beef Negimayaki, a dish that originated right here at Nippon and has since become a global favorite. Delight in our Tempura straight from the tempura bar, a standout feature of our menu. We also take pride in our in-house creations, including premium ni-hachi soba noodles and house-made tofu, which elevate every dish to an extraordinary level.

Special Features: For a truly authentic experience, reserve our Japanese-style tatami room, a private space designed for intimate gatherings with traditional floor seating and elegant décor.

Join us at Nippon, where tradition meets innovation in a setting as timeless as our heritage.

The restaurant is quite beautiful and the service was quite nice :) Food was very delicious. We had visited the restaurant explicitly to try Fugu and we were not disappointed. The portions were good but it was a bit on a pricey side.

The Godzilla Curry was lukewarm. Tasted like it was made earlier and left to sit in the pot. The broth for the Udon was a bit salty, but the noodles were fresh and delicious. The salad was quite good.

Dear Sharon, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your honest feedback with us. We're happy to hear that you enjoyed the fresh noodles and the salad! However, we sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered with the Godzilla Curry and the broth. Our goal is to provide every dish at the perfect temperature and with balanced flavors, and it sounds like we missed the mark on your visit. We will certainly address these concerns with our kitchen team to ensure this doesn’t happen again. We truly appreciate your comments as they help us improve, and we hope you'll give us another chance to provide you with a better experience next time.

Always a pleasure to dine at Nippon. The staff is so friendly. They know what table you want, and what you like to eat and drink. It is fun to host a group in a tatami room for a get-together: family, friends, birthdays. We have been going there for years.

Sitting in my out-of-the-way corner of this quiet, traditional Japanese restaurant, I might as well have been dining in a small spot in a local Tokyo neighborhood. Cosseted by the attention of the long-term staff who knows me well, I had a simple, genuine Japanese lunch-a bowl of soba noodles made from wheat from the restaurant’s Canadian farm, a spot of tempura and a constantly refilled cup of green tea. What more can one ask for? I’ve only been coming here since 1972. It’s my go to spot, and it won’t be long until I’m sitting there again .
Restaurant NipponResponded on 9 October 2024
Hi Ricardo, Thank you very much for your fantastic review. We’re delighted to hear that our little corner of the restaurant reminds you of Tokyo. Your longstanding loyalty since 1972 is truly cherished, and it’s an honor to serve you each time you visit. We take great pride in our ingredients, and it brings us joy to know you appreciate our artisan soba noodle. We look forward to welcoming you back soon for another delightful meal and more cups of green tea. Warm regards,
